M&P Full Size - .40 to 9 Conversion

Just so we are on the same page. I think there my be a bit of confusion.

I can drop my 9MM mag, toss off the slide (barrel included) replace it with a .40, slap in a full mag and dump 15 rounds downrange. WITHOUT any modifications?

1. Remove the 9mm mag
2. Remove the 9mm slide assembly
3. Get a 40 slide with the 40 barrel, either use the original guide rod/recoil spring or get a new one dedicated for the 40 slide, they are the same part. Put it back on the frame.
4. Load up a 40 magazine
5. Insert 40 magazine
6. Point the gun in a safe direction
7. Chamber a round
8. Shoot
9. Repeat as desired

Huh? Do you live behind enemy lines in a Ban state?

New factory 17 rd mags are plentiful now and can be found easily around the internet for $25-$30 each..

Thats a negative ghost rider. My current AO is OH. Gave up looking for mags about Jan. of last year. Hat tip for the link.

Thanks for the clarification. A simple yes would have sufficed but I degress.
Untill next time gentlemen.

I am still trying to figure out if I should get a factory 9mm barrel or pay the extra money and get the Storm Lake conversion barrel.

No problem finding .40 mags. My LGS has them for $22.50. The 9MM on the other hand have been a major pain in the rear to find.

Which is why Im looking into switchin over to the 40

I also have the M&P 40 and have purchased both the 9 and 357 Sig barrels. I think I had the Sig barrel 6 or 7 months before I found ammo. Essentially I have 3 guns in one. Not a bad deal. The barrels I purchased cost $90 each so for $180 I have 2 more guns in my stable...

Please see earlier post on quantico tactical 9mm mags for a decent price. Additionally you'll see recent posts on Midway having factory .357 sig barrels available. I immediately ordered my barrel. If you miss your chance put in at the major sellers a notification of when they get a shipment. Then you'll be able to buy the ammo at $30+ a box...

Semper Fi:

Good luck finding a .357 Sig barrel - I've been looking for one for my 40c for a couple of years now without any success. .357 Sig is an interesting round, very loud, but I like having some diversity in my collection.

Regards,

Dave

Actually i just received an email from Midway that they have 357 sig barrels for full size M&P in stock. I think they were selling them for $79.00 plus shipping. Bargain!

Over the last year, or so, this discussion has come up more than once.
Those in the know, reported that the 40 could be changed to a 9, just by changing the barrel. It was safe and reliable.

There was a voiced concern about inserting a 40 barrel into a 9.
It was not recommended!

im really having a hard time understanding why people have so many issues with swapping the 40 to 9..its literally change the barrel and mag

where does the confusion come from?
its almost impossible to find a factory barrel but there are a lot of other one offs readily available
