I picked up the M&P 9L Performance Center Ported.
Took it for a test drive today with a few different loads. It seems the feed ramp is VERY picky about the bullet profile.
Xtreme 124grain FP does not feed
Xtreme 124grain target HP does not feed
The Xtreme HP has almost the same profile as the FP. Most HP are much more rounded than these are.

The Bayou Bullet 150gr SWC feeds fine. So does the Montana Gold 147 TC.

To run this in IDPA I'm going to need an aftermarket barrel anyway... IDPA doesn't allow ported barrels.

Curious what kind of luck other handloaders are getting with this 'stock' setup.

I have the same pistol

If found with mine using the stock barrel any ammo that measured around 1.145" or longer had the same issues your having.

I tried Remington 115g that measure 1.110" over all length no problems.
Tried American eagle 145g measure 1.060" over all length no problems.
Tried American eagle 115g measure 1.100" over all length no problems.

With that being said I can't run ammo that measures over 1.110", the added .040(1mm) on the ammo that I ran will not work on the stock barrel or longer.

I've upgraded my pistol to all Apex components (using the gun smith fitted apex barrel) I have stayed with the ammo with an over all length 1.110" or under with no issues with the apex barrel. Haven't tried any ammo longer than that with the apex barrel.

I can tell you my groups tighten up a lot with the apex barrel. I shoot USPSA Open minor.

Hope this info helps you.

Your info helps a lot.

I want to say this stuff was all below 1.100. It was ammo that was made to pass the plunk test in a 5" PPQ barrel. The barrel with the infamous "sleeve" at the chamber throat. So to make ammo for it i have to keep the COAL a little short.

I was thinking about loading a little longer to help the nose find the feed ramp without so much travel out of the magazine. So your info about a max load length helps tremendously.

So while going back to a round nose bullet may be solution, I have far too many flat and hollow point bullets [ that run great in every other pistol ] to just give up and go back to round nose.

I know that I'll have to get an aftermarket barrel to use this pistol in IDPA. I've had decent results with KKM barrels in a Glock I run in the "unlimited" GSSF division. So I'm looking at barrels from Apex, KKM, and Wilson Combat.

I'm not too sure about storm lake. I've helped a lot of folks at the range clear malfunctions with Storm Lake barrels and "factory ammo". They tend to cut their chambers a little too tight for my liking. I don't mind doing a little final fit work to get a barrel to function but chamber reaming is where I draw the line.
