Has anyone done a comparison test/report of a 9mm M&P Pro vs a Springfield XDm competition model? My interest is competition and target shooting. I have been unable to get my hands on either one of these models, and hesitate to order one blind.

You would be best served to handle both guns before buying. If the gun doesn't feel good to you it's doubtful you'll shoot it good. In my medium-small hands I prefer the M&P. Both have some aftermarket support although I find the Apex sear and a little polish does plenty for the M&P, the XDM required a more expensive kit in it to clean the trigger up to my liking.

I had a Pro and a XDm. Had a few friends shoot them along with one of my Glocks. All of them had trigger work, and the M&P came out on top, followed by the Glock and the XDm was in last. Also you need to make sure that the grip safety is pressed in order to.rack.the slide.

I had a friend looking to buy his first handgun and offered my pro and XDm to him. I let him shoot both and he really wanted my pro, but shot the XDm a lot better. Now he has 3 different XDm's.

I was having the same issue trying to figure out what my next gun would be.

Me being a fan of the FNH FNX-45 Tactical I was more than happy to see S&W releasing a model that was close the same set up (High sights with an optic mount and 5" barrel)

Both guns have great after market support and a big following, this situation is kind of like what photographers go through to trying to figure out what kind of camera they want.

Look for features you want, what they both offer you, what you plan on shooting with it and how they feel in your hands. The last part is extremely important as if it feels strange to you it could effect how you shoot and how well you shoot.
