Several years ago I bought a new M&P Sport 15. This was before the Sport II was available. Mine has the 1:9 twist and is 100 % stock from the factory. It has 501 rounds through it and I just shot it at the local range a few days ago. So far it has given me no problems.

I'm curious as to how many rounds your S&W Sport 15 has through it with all of the original parts.

Thanks.

I would also be interested in reading a response to this, as I've read a number of posts over the years — namely on M4C and ARF — asserting that the M&P15 Sport wasn't built for serious business or whatever, yet I've yet to read a credible report of one breaking down from hard use, nor have I ever read about any endurance tests being conducted on one.

It seems like nobody has ever actually ran one hard before, so for all the folks who started out with an M&P15 Sport, then inevitably upgraded to an Tactical Pterodactyl Alpha Romeo One-Fiver Xtreme Doody for $9000, none of them either bothered to spend a fraction of that on ammo to actually test how many rounds their lowly M&P15 Sport could digest before something broke.

The closest I've ever seen is when Iraqveteran8888 attached an M&P15 Sport upper to a full auto lower, it went 800 rounds before the gas tube blew.

I only have maybe 2500 rounds through mine but never had a single issue. Not one ever. Also, it shot the best ten shot group I ever fired with a centefire rifle. Ten rounds with 9 going into a 5/16" hole and a tenth hole right next to it. Range was about 75 meters.

Without getting really technical, I'd suspect your ammo cost would be far in excess of your rifle price before something broke. At least if you avoid habitual dumps of all the mags you own. The various barrel finish treatments aren't as resistant to erosion as hard chrome. Per the USAMTU.

I am issued a Mag-Pul model M&P-15. It is bone stock except for the agency issued Vortex Strike Eagle optic. It also has a Streamlight TLR-1 on it. As far as I know, it still has the original gas rings in it. I have not been kind to that rifle. It has never had a single hiccup, and I have deployed it confidently against three active shooters (they all surrendered with 0 shots fired).

Unlike my M&P 45, I confidently trust my life to that rifle. Still running the 3 Pmags it was issued to me with. I even took that rifle to Patrol Rifle Operator School. I'm not sure if the model with the basic Mag-Pul furniture is still offered or not

I can't give you an accurate round count, but if I had to guess, I would say mine has a little over 5000 rounds through it, and I'm at least the second person it's been issued to.

I appreciate the info. Thanks for it and for your service. May I ask what lack of confidence you have in your M&P .45 ? Many years ago I evaluated the then recently released GLOCK 22 .40 for a local dept that was considering replacing their Ruger P85 9mm issued pistols. They switched soon after that evaluation.

An impossible to answer question. Too many changeable factors. Good quality guns that aren't abused will generally last a long time through many rounds without problems.

The question was how many rounds your M&P 15 has through it with it's original parts, not how many they will or should.

I have detailed our agency's issues with the M & P in great detail on the forum.

Generally speaking, a low quality pistol. Our entire agency had every pistol replaced at least once, some were on their 3rd when we were graciously permitted to.transition to the Glock 17. We had rusting issues, front sights falling off, magazines springs
breaking, strikers failing, failures to feed and extract, and a couple other issues.

Just altogether a poor pistol.

Took the M & P 15 out a few weeks ago. Probably put another 150-200 down the pipe. I love that rifle. The 5R rifling sure makes it a tack driver and the Strike Eagle makes it easy.

I bought my first Sport II right after it came to market and have run over 10K through it with all the same parts in it. My second one, only about 5 years old, has had close to 3K in it. That's my wife's rifle. Both are scoped and set for 100 yards. One scope is an 8-24x50 and the other is 10-40x56, I can see where the target was made at 100 yards away. Every range trip they share about 250 rounds between them. One is shooting and the other is cooling down. I never heat them up to glowing. Just 30 rounds then cool down. I also made a battery powered fan that goes into the mag well and it works great. Close the dust cover and the light air flow has no place to go but down the barrel and out. Those old Dell laptops finally had something useful inside (CPU fan). I clean both rifles after use every time. And I think that has paid off. Thinking about getting another but can't justify it just yet.
