Im looking for some thoughts on the M&P line vs Springfields XDM line. The very first polymer pistol I ever bought was an M&P 40 in 2007. Over the past two years I've bought about 15 or so different polymer handguns including 4 more M&Ps. Here's my quik summary. Walther-junk, glock-junk, steyr-absolute garbage, Taurus-great performance horrible fit and finish, M&P- thumbs up, sig-thumbs up, and finally, Springfield-absolute perfection. I have kept all my M&Ps with the exception of 1, and have had great luck and performance with them. That being said, my Springfield 45 XDM, is what is in my night stand right now. Here's my opinion on these guns, and I'm no expert. For me they are far more accurate than the rest, the trigger is like butter right from the factory. Shooting this firearm makes me feel almost like an expert marksman compare to the other weapons (mostly S&W) in my stable. At around 1000 rounds through it, I have to say that even though the price point is a bit higher, its far superior than the rest.

I've shot some Springfields and they're awesome. Yeah, the price point is higher, but I've never read a bad review of them. I'd stick with the XDM.

From your choices, I'd take the XDm. It has a better trigger than any M&P I've shot.

I disagree with you on your opinions about Walther pistols, and the M&P as well. The Walther PPQ is a superior striker fired polymer gun, IMO. It is far and away more accurate than any M&P pistol I've shot. Probably by virtue of its superior trigger. The PPQ has a GREAT trigger, right out of the box, with no need for additional expense or hassle with aftermarket parts.

Unlike the M&P where you need an Apex kit to give it a decent, useable trigger, that it should have had from the factory. Quite a bit of added expense. And it's not like S&W is giving away the M&P to start with......well.....unless you are an LE agency. ;)

So, I purchased a Walther PPQ in 9mm after shooting one. I won't be buying an XDm and you couldn't give me an M&P, in any caliber or configuration.

I will be buying another Walther though. The P99 compact 9mm with AS trigger. Only the second striker fired polymer pistol that is worth buying, IMO.

Good luck with your decision! :) Regards 18DAI

It was a walther P99 in 40 cal that I owned, felt great in the hand but worst trigger on the market, IMO, and way overpriced.

I've owned a XDM 40cal for over a year and its been flawless, the XDMS is in several gun mags in 45cal,when its out in 9 or 40 I'll compare it to the Shield. I have a Ruger LC9 I'm not real happy with thats going to be replaced.

When I bought my first XD, I wanted an M&P. But after shooting both, I had to get the XD. I shot it better and just liked the feel of it better. I was in the market recently for another polymer gun and ended up with an SP 2022 based not only on feel and accuracy but also on price.

I love my S&W revolvers and my 4006 is heavy, but accurate. I just couldn't pick the M&P over an XD.

I have a XD 9 sc and M&P 45. I shoot the XD better than any other gun I have and is my every day care love it.

I have an XD 40 S&W with the Custom Carry package - night sights and a combat trigger job from the custom shop. You can't believe the trigger! It is without a doubt one of my favorite autos.

I like the M&P and could see myself possibly buying one in the future (likely in the form of a Shield), but I absolutely HAD to own an XDm 4.5" .45acp from the first second I held one. It is my EDC gun, and I love it even more every time I fire it.
