I finally got around to making a few modifications to my M&P15 that I've been wanting to do. I have the Nikon P-223 scope and had it mounted using the P-223 rings. I also have a brass catcher that clamps around the D-ring for the forearm guard, which works great! This created the problem in that I couldn't remove the scope without either removing the clamp or the rear MBUS sight.
I also choose to swap out the MOE forearm with a floating quad rail.
I had to change out the brass catcher mount as it wouldn't line up correctly with the quad rail. Turns out, the bottom part of the Nikon P-223 mount lines up almost perfect with the side rail and the catcher. I had to only slightly widen out the screw slots on the catcher and add a couple small washers to get everything spaced out correctly. That problem is solved.
As for the P-223 scope... being it is so short it creates the problem in finding a mount that would work with it. I did find that UTG makes a QD mount that works perfectly with it. It is the UTG M1S35070R2 Integral QD Offset Mount. Now, the last problem to overcome is to have the scope and MBUS sights both available. That was done by adding a Truglo 1/2" riser mount under the UTG mount.
I figured I'd share the info on the Nikon scope, as I've seen a few posts talking about the same issue of not being able to use the scope while still having MBUS sights. With luck, this might help others out solving this problem. Now all I need is some nice weather and time to sight the scope back in, and I'll be happy
