Nuthin' fancy here (no light box, great camera, expensive gun) . . .

But here's my new M&P15OR, already updated with the new, recently released Magpul MOE handguards. These make an amazing difference in the handling of the carbine . . . more like the original triangular M16 handguards.

These truly have a more triangular shape to them (hard to show), that lays in the hand much better. You can mount accessory rails on the sides and bottom too for lights, straps, mono grip/bipods, etc.

Naturally, it works well with the A2 type front sight, but also works great with the tall gas block on the front of the S&W M&P15OR too, I'm very glad to say!

Naturally, this new carbine is a work in progress. I imagine backup flip-up front and rear sights are next, along with a different grip.

Suggestions on front sight? It rests on the taller gas block than many AR15s have, so I've got to keep that in mind.

I;m in the process of getting rid of the stock sight on mine and will replace it with a Yankee Hill combo gas block/front sight. It's fairly low profile and with my discount for $60, I can't go wrong.

Tom,

I've narrowed my OR BUIS choice to one of 2 sets. The purist in me likes the S&W M&P set that comes standard on the M&P15T. That set sits on the same tactical rail level, so it will work on the M&P OR ARs. Those part numbers are:

81102 rear M&P BUIS 172.50
40146 front M&P BUIS 100.00

The other set I like is the Spring Actuated GG&G. They have 2 different front sights, the M&P OR would require the one for tactical forearms (GGG-1282). See them at

The GG&G set is a little less expensive (if you get it at Botach Tactical), and looks like it would nicely compliment the M&P OR. I'll probably wind up getting that one.

FWIW, the S&W sites are made by Troy Industries and you can get them either from Troy or a few other dealers for $120 to $140 (rear). The front sight will have the same price difference. Only difference on the factory sight is that there stamped M&P 15. Not worth the extra $$ to me!

Hi,

They were asking $1,050 for the M&P15OR model that I got . . . the one without sights, just the rail.

Sadly, in today's post-election madness, that's actually a good price. The shop also had a Bushmaster equivalent for $950 but the M&P15OR was the better value for the money.

I didn't pay that much . . . for I did some trading.

In about three days the Bushmaster was gone too. Such are the times since the election of the world's greatest gun salesman.

Don't feel bad about the price, here the M&P15ORC is $1250.00 and they're scarce at that

I called S&W and they're backordered over 1000 for every M&P.

If you're searching for ARs, don't forget to visit general sporting goods stores, too. I've seen ARs on the shelves of several Academy Sports, at normal (pre-election) prices.

Greetings, I'm looking to immediately purchase a Model M&P15X Rifle, anyone know where they are available on-line at a reasonable price? Also, is the front site easily removed? Model M&P15T would also work. Thanks!!
