The compact version of the M&P22 hasa been out for sometime, and I am toying with the notion to get one for range practice. Those who own one, or have shoot one may be kind enough to give your appraisal of the weapon?
Is it reliable and trouble free? Will it shoot most 22LR ammo?

There are a lot of reviews on YouTube to check out. They are universally positive.

In regard to reliability, many claimed it was better than a Ruger Mk3 with a variety of ammo, eating anything it was fed. That boggles my mind, as I never had a failure with my MK2.

Anyway, based partly on those reviews and partly on features, I have one coming early next week. We'll see, but I think it's a safe bet.

What I'm looking for now is a good, hard shelled, belt holster, like a BladeTech.

I bought one back in January and love it. It's size is somewhere between the Shield and the full size in the M&P line but the feel and ergos are identical making it great for less expensive range practice. It's also a great gun for teaching newcomers basic skills before moving them up to something with more recoil.

So far, the only ammo I've run through mine is the CCI Mini Mags and it has been 100% reliable. One LGS near me always has the Mini Mags in stock for $8.95 a box so I pick up a couple every time I go by. IMO CCI is the Cadillac of the 22 ammo world. My father-in-law also has one and has shot a bunch of different ammo through his with no issues that I know of and some of the ammo he buys I wouldn't even consider. GO ahead and get one, you won't regret it!

I have 600+ rounds thru my Compact, and not a single ammo issue. And that's using not only mini mags but going thru some Federal champ and automatch as well (which my Buckmark doesn't always eat). It is a blast to use, not as accurate as the BM but i got it for another fun plinker. And for that it fits the bill nicely. I'd suggest one.

Added a couple pix for some reference, one shows it on the far left, next to my PC Shield and then my Full Size MP. The other pic has the Compact on left, Shield on right comparing thickness.

Thanks Ranger:
I like the size comparatives. I have the Shield and the FS in 9mm. Thought the 22C would fit in nicely!

I will be viewing some Facebook videos to get some further views!

I'll add for accuracy, at 10 yds in a darker indoor range (and with my crappy grandpa eyes the target itself is not exactly crisp lol) i think it did pretty well. In the hands of a better shooter, i'd assume the grouping would follow as well.
Though i dont bother using any rest, and tend to play with it when at the range as its just for fun. I'm not competing with anyone so if at distances 10yds and beyond i can keep most hits within the inner rings I'm happy. And not having to deal with (so far) ammo issues while playing, all the better.

Thanks Again, My eyes too, are crappy! 85 yrs. on this end!
I think I'll enjoy the M&P22C., as I shoot most every week at my Local Indoor Range. The 22LR will offer some cost savings.
I take it the rear sight is easily adjusted for windage and elevation?

Yes, very easy to adjust.

I like mine... much better than the FS.

yep the rear sight is adjustable, though cant say how easy/hard as i did not have to mess with it (actually haven't adjusted any of my MP's). It was fine for me out of the box and has remained so.

I like mine. I am closing in on 9500 rounds. It likes CCI SV, golden bullet, CCI mini mags, Aquila. Runs thunderbolt fine, but leads up quickly with those.

It does not like Federal automatch in the recent production runs. Some I had from before 2013 manufacture runs great, but recent, not even to consider. Nor American Eagle or Federal Champion / Lightning.

I am pleased with the purchase overall.

I bought one last year (2015) and really like it. As to grip size: I bought a Hogue wrap around and am even happier with this. Of course, my claws are a bit large.

I have tried only a few ammo brands, and all worked well.

Love mine. Little over 1200 rounds without issue. Mostly CCI mini mags and a little Armscor.

I have two great and two full size m&p 22 also very good all well no issues at all mostly use federal auto match ammo

I have a compact 22 and a MK2 Government, they are both great firearms, never had any issues with any ammo I have fed through it except the black box Winchester, the box of 222-22's had so many no fires in both pistols. Now the MK2 is my target pistol but the compact 22 is a sweet shooter but not as accurate as my MK2, I am not saying it is not accurate because it is, just not a target pistol. Would I get rid of it? Nope.

I've had my M&P .22 Compact for close to a year now. Hands down, it is as fun as a small semiauto can be. It joins a battery of Rugers (MkII 22/45 Target; MkIII Hunter; Single Six and Bearcat); Sig Mosquito; and S&W K22 and 617 that have had many rounds put through them. Do any of them shoot "just anything"? I don't know because hard experience has taught me some brands just aren't worth messing with (are you listening Remington?). CCI MiniMag 40 gr. solids are my "go to" ammo with Federal AutoMatch and some of the Winchester lines right behind. The new Browning solids have joined the rotation but that's really a Winchester product anyway. As for the pistol itself: let's just say it is showered with unconditional love. It has yet to burp (which is to say, no failures to feed, fire, eject or otherwise misbehave). It was perilously close to sighted in right out of the box and took little effort or ammo to dial it in. As Dick Clark used to day in the old days, "It's a hit."

It is not a Smith, it is a Walther. Made by Walther. It is a total piece of junk. I have owned many guns and this is the worst. Buy the Ruger, you will be much happier.

The family has enjoyed the M&P 22 Compact for going on 2 years. Got them Christmas 2014. No issues short they do not like under powered ammo. Have run into a couple of boxes of Federal and a brick of Remington Goldens that they didn't seem to digest well. Just in general did not cycle - was consistent across the board with all the guns.
