I am sure a huge fan of the XDM 3.8. I am not one that is swimming in money so I would have to part with one to acquire the other. If I could keep it I sure would since it is such a fine weapon.

Keep the XDM 9mm and get an M&P in 45acp.

Problem solved.

Seriously though, by your user name you obviously like the XD, nothing wrong with that, the XD is a fine firearm. The S&W is also a fine firearm, will you like it better? Only you can tell. The reason I went with the S&W was it fit my hand better than the Glock or the XD. I also went with a .45 because I like big bullets. I love having choices, it's what makes America great. :)

I just did what you're thinking about doing. The XD-M 3.8 was just too big for me to CC I felt. That BIG grip, and how many times are you going to need that many rounds? The grip safety just got in my way too.
I've had an M&P full size 9mm for several years now, and the M&P just fits my hand better. Also the FS magazines will work in the 9c, so I automatically have 4 magazines now.
I sold my XD-M for what I paid for it easily. Come on over.... to the M&P side!

I'm sure you xdm is a pretty good gun and you can't go wrong with the m&p. I think your doing the same thing I do which is getting bored with a gun. There is only so many times you can shoot it, clean it, wipe it down, practice quick draw, until you know the gun inside and out.

Am I that far off?

M&P's hold their value so if you did buy one and didn't like it, you won't take that big of a hit.

I would suggest that you find a range that will rent a Smith to you and run some ammo through it. See if it works for you. Both are fine weapons, but, each feels different. Yes, both usually go bang with each trigger pull, but that elusive "feel" factor needs to be considered. Grip safety, interchangeable backstraps, etc., all figure into the program. Just my two cents. No matter which works, you pay, you win.
