I bought a M19 Nickel and the cylinder is not stamped with a "N". Could this be a refinish? No papers and no box.

Thanks for all replies.

Maybe, maybe not. The N stamp on the cylinder and/or on the butt would likely confirm it was factory nickel when it left the factory. Is there an N on the butt or elsewhere? The lack of it on the cylinder doesn't confirm that it is not factory nickel. Post some good, clear, sharp pictures and folks here will probably be able to confirm one way or the other.

I have 2 19-3 and 19-4 with 2.5" barrels. Both my 19's are stamped with N on cylinder and frame. You will have to remove the grips and look at the left side of the frame there should be an N stamped on the frame at the bottom of the grip.

Definitely check the grip frame, left side, near the bottom, that is where you should find an "N" indicating nickel finish. If there is no "N", then there is a high probability that it is an aftermarket plating.

Hard to say with the little info you've provided and no pictures! I can tell you that my nickel Model 19-4 2-1/2" bbl. has an "N" stamped on the back of the cylinder and on the grip frame. If you have an N stamped on your grip frame, it may be that S&W missed stamping the N on the cylinder face.

I had one like yours with the RR/WO sights.

Thank you for sharing.

Thank you everyone for the replies. I tried to remove the grips last night with no avail. I don't want to bugger up the wood. The pistol is beautiful even if it may not be a factory finish.

I'll check under the extractor star.

I bought a M19 blue 2.5" awhile back and said I was done.

And then, this one shows up. :o

I know; y'all told me so! :D

I recently purchased a nickel 27 ND with no N on the rear face of the cylinder. The N was hiding under the extractor star...and on the left side of the grip frame. Oh those sneaky S&W fitters.

The winner! Thank you, it is marked under the extractor star. :)

The reason I didn't bother to take pictures is it is perfect with the faintest of a turn line.
