Anybody have a M1A Scout Squad rifle? I'm thinking one might be on my wanna get list. I figure it's not a great rifle for anything but a good one for most things. I been looking to move and the States I'm looking at allow deer and hog hunting with rifles along with the fact that I think I just want one.

The quality of the Springfield Armory M1A is hit or miss. I had a SOCOM 16 that didn't want to cycle properly with any of my handloads. A friend has a SOCOM II that does function perfectly with all my handloads. At least the Scout uses the same gas system that their full length rifles use and should in theory be more trouble free. If you have the money, a custom gun on an LRB action is the way to go.

I got mine in the spring of 2008, never had a problem with it but I I have never tried to shoot hand-loads with it.

I have had several, all springfields, and have never had any issues. I currently have a " loaded" stainless and a socom II. Both rifles will shoot better than I can plus I have springfields lifetime warranty that goes with the rifle, not the owner. Eventually my boys will be getting them and the warranty will still hold.the socom or the scout are both good for hogs and relatively close ranges.either should serve you well. Handloading sor an M-14 type rifle can be tricky if the right powders or proper bullets are not used. Hope this helps

Just looked at Fulton Armory out of curiosity, and if I'm reading their warranty info correctly they only cover their product for 12 months or 12000 rounds, whichever comes first, compared to a lifetime warranty from Springfield. Not saying anything bad about FA, I have no experience with one, but I personally feel more secure with Springfield's warranty. JMO and worth exactly what you paid for it.

I've got a Socom that I bougt used last year. Don't know how many rounds have been through it but the several hundred I've shot have been trouble free. Accurate gun also. I'm happy with this Springfield.

I have shot several Springfield Armory M1/A's over the years including a couple of the 18" M1/A's and 2 SOCOMS.

The SOCOMS were not as accurate as I would like, but the 18" guns shot as good as the standard M1/A's, at 100 yards.
All of them have been acceptably accurate.

All of them functioned 100%.

I have shot some Fulton Match M1/A's and they were very good guns.
I have shot several Armscorp Match M1/A's and they were excellent as well.
