I have an opportunity to purchase a 27-2, one in nickel and one blued. Both are early 1970's guns. The Blued is a 1973 and the nickel is a 1976 or vice versa, don't recall now. Both are in 98-99% with wood presentation box and paperwork.

My question to the experts is two fold

1. What is a fair price for each and
2. if you could only pick one, which would it be.

I may be able to get both if the stars and moon align right.

Thanks

I am blue kind of guy as well!!!, and I think anything at about $1000 or less seems to be the going rate in my area..

I gotta go with the nickel...I'll see two or three or more blue at a gun show.. but very seldom nickel..
I picked up this 1955 Pre 27 a couple of weeks ago.. a factory re nickel to be sure.. but you just don't see them around..

Buy both!!

Sal is right ......nickel is way more scarce and valuable if in high condition so I wouldn't let it get away even if you prefer blue.

I say if you have to make a choice, go with the one that makes your heart happy, whatever it may be. What was said above about the nickel 27's is most certainly true, but if your gut says otherwise, listen to it.
I have been a regular at nearly every gun show and shop in my area for 20 years or so, and have only seen ONE 3.5" 27; and it was under the table and not for sale. If not for the internet, I still wouldn't have one. To have a shot at a two-fer is in my opinion, a stroke of luck that should not be ignored. Buy both if at all possible.
As for price, (+or- $200) $900 for blued; $1100 for nickle including the pres. cases.

Nickel! Blue also if you can swing it. You will easily be able to get your money back out of either (assuming of course that they aren't way over priced). Especially if you hang on to them for 10 years or so.
f.t.

First choice has to be the nickel! While you do not see either oftern, the nickel seems to be seen less than the blue. That being said, GET BOTH! Do what you have to do to get them!

If you can only get one then it depends on what you want to do with it. If it's a safe queen bought to increase in value go with the nickel. If it's an occasional shooter, go with the blue. I bought a M27 3 1/2" Nickel in near perfect condition back in Nov. of 2009. I love the gun, it's absolutely gorgeous, but it's a pain in the rear to clean. The nickel shows every little fleck and fingerprint. I've only shot about 150 rounds through the gun since I've owned it. If the prices get to the point where I can double my money on the nickel (I paid $700) I may see about selling it and buying a couple of shooter grade guns. I'm not a "safe queen" type of gun collector. Not that there's anything wrong with that, it's just not for me.

Dumb question. You know you are going to buy them both...

I'm gonna try to but I think the asking price is a few hundred too high. The dealer wants $1395 for the Blue one and $1495 for the Nickel. Like I said both are in 99% condition with papers and presentation case. Great guns for a collector to have. I'm gonna try to swing a deal for both and see if he bites. The other bad thing is he is gonna charge sales tax. That in itself will add about another $200 to the price.

Dryheat...

Those are too beautiful...

I think you just melted my brain...

I just which that I had your problem! :)

I agree with the Forum brethren before me... Nickel if you want the investment value to increase and put it away, blue if you want to shoot it allot and both if you can swing it.

That's a small boatload of cash to layout all at once but boy it sure would be a hoot to walk out with the pair!!

OK, I'm gonna try to get them both. I'll make the call to the dealer tomorrow. might have to put one of them on layaway for a bit if the dealer will allow. But for sure I'll try to walk home with one. After the 3 day wait of course.

If and when I get them I will surely post pics!

I think the dealer is WAY high on those prices! He would be doing well getting 2K for both and he should know that.

I'm going to go ahead and take the low road on this one...
