M27 TRR8 vs M27 M&P R8

My question is---I think both are PC guns, but other than the barrels having different rifling, is there any difference in the two as far as parts and assembly goes. I am thinking of getting one or the other and can't decide which one would be better. Do they use forged parts or do they use the MIM.The web site goes into great detail on the M&P R8, but says very little about the TR R8.
In you opinion, which barrel is better all other factors being equal.

Slightly off topic, but I was looking an R8 over at a fun shop and was about to buy, when I noticed some peening of the frame over the firing pin where the hammer stops. Is that normal? I am a little concerned about the Aluminum framed guns, this kind of gave me the willies.

I just couldn't get excited about the Al/Sc framed 327's - especially the 2"-er, with it's Ti cylinder. My 296 AirLite Ti, after 6.5 yr of use, is enough of both for me. I liked the short barrel version of the 327 - but would rather have it in SS, just not the unfluted cylinder of the infamous 'Bloodwork' 627. The 327NG is close, however - but still that Al/Sc frame. I love my 627 Pro (The 'Pro' series combine many PC-Shop attributes with a regular production product - except for the PC-shop price!) - even thought about buying a second one and sending it to MA for a shorter barrel - if they'd do that.

I can't help you comparing the two 5" PC 327s. I can tell you how elated I am over my 627 Pro purchase of 5/08. What a jewel! My 5" JM PC625 V-Comp has cobwebs on it, despite it's better trigger. They did a masterful job on that revolver - lite trigger - and will pop any primer. Still, that 627 Pro is a shooter - natural grip/pointer, too. Maybe a consideration?

I have the 327 Jerry Miculek PC version which has the shrouded polygonal rifled barrel and unfluted titanium cylinder. I was a bit apprehensive at shooting such a light revolver in ICORE and steel matches but it actually comes back on target faster than my 627 PC. I ish they would make the same barrel and cylinder configuration on a stainless steel framed revolver.

I'm not usually one to bump a post from the depths, but the OP alluded to the rifling being different in these two, and I can't find anything documenting that difference. Can anyone confirm? Thanks

AFAIK, the only difference between the two guns is that one has two removable rails, while the other has one integral and one removable. I believe the PC guns still use broach cut rifling as opposed to the production guns ECM rifling.

IDK about the rifling, but you're spot-on about the rails. I'm baffled as to why they needed two near-identical guns to offer the option, but more choices is always better.

I finally got to handle a 327 at my favorite LGS and was impressed. Unfortunately, the price tag made a big impression as well

I shot both before getting the R8. Differences I caught is the TRR8 has a skeletonized underlug whereas the R8 does not. The TRR8 has a square notched rear sight; the R8 is V-notched. The R8 is an M&P; the TRR8 isn't, probably because the cutout in the underlug is where the M&P badge goes. Both triggers are very nice; both are Performance Center. It really boils down to whether or not you want the ability to take off the top rail. Both are great guns.

Some do, but not all. My 625PC & 627PC 8-Times have broached rifling.

My PC 325 Thunder Ranch, PC 327 TRR8, & PC 460XVR Carry do not.

You can remove both on the TRR8 & only the top on the M&P R8 as the bottom rail is built-in.

I installed a Hi-Viz red front sight on mine to match the bullets.
