M41 magazines - new or used?

S&W has new M41 mags for $28.36 new. Used M41 mags are going for $40 to $70

on gunbroker.

Why pay $50 for a used mag or a new vintage mag when you can get new for about half. Is there any difference?

Okay, so I'm seeing that the old ones have a metal/steel follower and some a removable base plate. I guess I can see the difference. I believe the newer mags have a plastic follower? Do they have a removable baseplate?

No to the removable base plate.

Also note that the original Model 41 magazine which did not have any weld seems, they were staked together, these to me are worth the extra bucks. This had the metal follower as did the later ones up until the plastic ones were introduced. When they say early magazine it could be from any year up to the plastic follower.
You can pick up the model 41 mags for a little as $20.00 ea. at Midway occasionally. I prefer the metal followers, that's just me, same with the model 52s, where the difference show's up a bit more in there function to kick up the slide top after the last round. The plastic wears easier, keep in mind this is on the 52 mags not the 41s.

That's a great price. What is shipping like? I just bought one at my local FFL, the only magazine they had, for just over $27. Midways list them for $22.99 but out of stock. I guess you have to call?

I ordered a couple of other items with the mags
and shipping was $8.46.They were on sale a couple of months ago but out of stock so I put them on "notify me "list.This may be why I got them at sale price.
