M60 with Hunting Pocket Holster (homemade)

I just picked up this M60 no dash .38 spl Ser# R330xxx yesterday to carry while blood trailing. It is a little scratched where someone might have dropped it...but mechanically very tight and shot very little. For $250, I couldn't resist. I wanted a small J frame that I could put in my pocket so there wouldn't be holster to catch my bow string when bowhunting hogs.

Being new to carrying a handgun while hunting, I searched the forums looking for a pocket holster. I'm wasn't looking so much for a concealed holster as it will spend a good deal of the time in my fanny pack. Thus I needed a holster to keep the gun from slipping out while riding in the pack and still being slim enough to put in my back pocket. I forge knives and make most of my own knife sheaths so this is what I came up with. Probably 5 oz suede leather with a deep pocket and a thong tie to keep secure when in my fanny pack.

PS: The gun has snap caps in the cylinder.

I'm a firm believer that if someone has the skills / ability to make something then
that's the way to go because you usually end up with exactly what you want / need.

I'm also a firm believer in modifying existing products, for the same end.

I'll be back in SC hog hunting again in three weeks. This will be my maiden voyage carrying my revolver. I'll also be testing how well the 38 special and + P rounds penetrate a hog's skull. I want to make sure they work well before trailing a wounded Big Boy like this guy during the night.

Buffalo Bore makes a new plus P ammo called "Outdoorsman". It is a 158 gr. Hard Cast Keith. Should get over 1000 FPS in your gun, which is 350FP in the energy dept! I would think that is about as good as it gets shooting hogs with a .38 snubby.
