i brought a 65-2 that has some top strap cutting.how much is too much? i plan on useing mostly 158gr. bullets maybe a few 125+P. if i use 158gr bullets will it keep cutting the top strap? thanks for your help.

Are you concerned aobut looks or function?

Functionally, the gas cutting typically seems to go so far and then stop. Of course, if you shoot light-bullet full-power .357 loads a lot, you can cut it deep enough to matter.

My favorite load for my 65 is a 135gr Gold Dot over a near-max load of HP38 in a .357 case. This is my version of the short barrel load.

Of course for target practice, you can shoot +P 158gr .38 loads forever with no worry. I use 158gr Berry loaded to about 820 fps.
