Machine gun fun? Hack job by Columbus Dispatch

Not knowing which "machine gun" the writer was referring to, I do think the 2-mile killing range a bit sensational but for the most part not as anti as I expected.

Regarding the 8-year-old's death, I believe he was with his father but not strictly supervised and the kid was using, if I recall, a mini Uzi which got away from him
under full auto.

Personally, I think it's hard enough for adults to handle full auto let alone young children.
I've seen cops at a local range using a Mach-10 and it was hilarious or pitiful
depending on your viewpoint.

The part that gets me is the comment from the Brady Bunch rep. Why was it necessary to have them weigh in on an event like this?

I added my comment to their blog.

"What's your point? Trying to make something out of nothing?

This article is definitely the work of a left wing, whack job.

You guys are all the same. You have no idea of what you are talking about, you've got no concept of what the Second Amendment is all about and you try to make everyone that does look like an inbred hillbilly! In doing so, you just show yourself to be the fool that you really are.

COME ON, GIMME A BREAK. Get a life, creep! "

Thanks for the heads up I live north west of Columbus do not and will not read or advertise in the Dispatch but I did leave a response.

There are times that I am "SO" proud to live in Ohio. This is not one of them. The writer is a tool of the left wing establishment. What a shame.

I feel the same way, I gave up on the Dispatch years ago. The editor Joe Hallet is as anti gun as thay get. Opposed CCW and favors the so called assult weapon ban. A friend E-mailed me the artical this morning or I would not have seen it.

What a surprise!
Another stellar example of why print media nationwide is on it's hands and knee's panting like a steam engine on a hard grade. Another J school success story.
(EDIT) I sent an E mail to the author by clicking on the name at the top of the piece.
It said to be careful, someone's agenda was peeking out.

Typical of the Dispatch. They were in a leftist-slide the last few years I lived there. In these days of declining circulation, it seems they would be a little more careful not to alienate what remains of their customer base, which is overwhelmingly moderate to conservative.

Want to have some fun? Some clown by the name of "Floyd" took exception with my post. I came back and scorched him a bit. You might want to do the same.

Yes Chaz,
I'm sure I ruined my Son's future the Birthday (#15) I took him to spit three sticks out of a 27' Thompson. He was so damaged, that he went on to serve in Desert Storm, get a degree from U of I and ended up owning three Midas stores. Like I said, another wasted life.

If memory serves me corrictly, I want to say the stats for crimes committed with a legally owned NFA weapon is 0 since the act was inacted in 1934. I did a little research and it seems I was incorrect. It is 2:

"While NFA weapons are largely perceived (and portrayed in news media and movies) in the United States as 'dangerous', their use in crime is exceedingly rare. Legally-owned (ie, NFA-registered) machine guns have been used in only two murders since 1934, one of which was committed by a police officer.[11] A previous director of the ATF testified before Congress[citation needed] that fewer than ten registered machine guns (out of over 240,000 in the nation) have ever been used in any type of crime (including nonviolent offenses such as failing to notify ATF of address changes, etc.). The criminal use of other legally-owned NFA weapons is similarly rare. The Title II weapons used in prominent crimes, such the AK-47s used in the North Hollywood shootout of 1997, have universally been illegally-owned or illegally-converted weapons."

How can the Brady group on this topic be in the same sentence?

Actually, I found the overall tone to be a lot more balanced than I expected in any of today's mass market newspapers. Yeah, it is biased but can you imagine how the NY Times would have slanted that story? At least in this report they actually permitted one of the shooters to explain the appeal of shooting a full auto.

BTW, I still don't understand the appeal. To me it's just a wasteful use of good ammunition. But, if that's what floats your boat, go for it, just don't clean out every Walmart in 5 counties to do it.

I know Ralph Scott who puts this event on and have bought guns from him.Very good guy who is a total professional. He is a credit to the sport .Hope it continues...Mike

I'm just waiting to see news story like this:

"Here in our hometown, a leftest reporter just put his 17 year old daughter behind the wheel of a high powered BMW that is capable of killing car loads of people and pedestrians.

Asked why anyone needs a car that can go over 55 mph, the reporter flippantly stated... 'Because its fun and she wanted it.'

Statistics obtained from BMW indicate that this car can attain speeds of over 130 mph. The reporter had no response to these chilling facts.

A representative from Mothers Against Drunk Drivers (whose own precious daughter was killed by a BMW) said that the likelihood of a young and inexperienced driver having an accident was quite high.

Nationally over 40,000 driving related deaths have occurred each year for the last 20 years."
