you wake up and find yourself in a mad max situation (aftermath of destruction, no govt, and very little civilized structure) you can take 1 gun from your collection. i know this isn't realistic cause you could walk around with as many as you could carry. but IF you could only have one, which would you choose and why?

i think i would take my marlin 336 trapper 30 30. lightweight, fast shootin, and chances of runnin into ammo is good.

My Benelli Nova 12g. Shotguns seem more versatile to me in this hypothetical situation whether it be killing food or protection. Plus 12g ammo would probably be easier to find.

Me too! Oddley, I own many more exspendsive guns, more powerfull, and more accurate. However this rifle I bought new in the late 50s as a teenager, have shot at least one deer over 200 yards, it never let me down, light to carry, fast handeling, 30-30 should be about the most available ammo, I am well used to it. It isnt the very best in every field, but in all fields its near the top and that makes it "The best" all around gun.

I would take my 22 caliber 617. For one reason. Compare the weight of 3000 rounds of 22 caliber to anything more powerful. Guns won't do you a bit of good if you run out of ammo. With the 22 caliber, it's not difficult to carry enough ammo to last a good long time.

BTW, give me a second gun and it would be a bolt action magazine fed 22 rifle.

Well, if I was forced to visit New Orleans after the next hurricane hits, I guess I'd take an AR --- abundant ammo in circulation, spare mags and parts too, ample weapon for SD against rogue cops and lightly parented "disadvantaged" youths.

Agreed,at least in urban areas or other locales where attacks by zombies are likely. However, if I were way out in the boonies where contact with two-legged threats were unlikely, I'd probably opt for my Savage Model 24 -- .223 over 12 gauge.

Reington 870 with the 18.25" Bbl. Anything from birds to BIG game, 4 legged critters, and of course the smartest 2 legged critter of them all. Ease of finding ammo and parts is a BIG plus.
