Made in USA, American flags

Are y'all aware that through your Congressman or Senator, you can purchase a flag that was specifically flown over the US Capitol for you?

You can pick from several different sizes and get your flag in nylon or cotton, and the cost and wait time are pretty reasonable.

Here's the link to the Architect of the Capitol, who is in charge of the program. Within that page is a link to a roster of Congressmen and Senators, or you can just go directly to the appropriate official's homepage.

I’m rather surprised that requirement wasn’t already in place, at least it is now.

I can most certainly relate to that. I worked for a contractor circa 1995 that did major work at the Watervliet Arsenal. (Close to Albany NY) It was for a big job putting in a large chromium facility!

In the contact it was clearly stated all pipe and other structural materials had to be American made. That's the way it should be!

It has to be USA made.

It says they average more than 100,000 flag requests from Members of Congress annually and there are special poles to fly them from. That is 274 flags per day; I bet someone (or several someone's) job is to run flags up and down the pole(s) all day long

Annin has been making flags in Ohio and a couple of other states for decades.

That's exactly right. I found this interesting article on how the program works...

It's a really nice program, and the certificate that comes with the flag is beautiful. I gave one to a German friend years ago, and he displays it (properly folded, in a wooden case) in his home.

I just ordered one for the lady who cleans the office where I work. She is an immigrant and naturalized American, and proudly carries with her the photo from her citizenship ceremony, with her standing under a banner that reads "I am an American". When she showed me that, ordering a flag for her was the first thought that came to mind... :)

They probably have multiple flags being pulled at the same time. Not one at a time.

VERY COOL! I’m sure that she will cherish that always!

American made, as well it should be.

The inside flag was carried on a combat mission in the cockpit of an A-10C WartHog. I have an inside track on this.

I, like Retired W4, fly an American made USA flag outside everyday, and have an inside flag in the triangular case on display. My inside flag was handed to my mother in July of 1967 at my father’s funeral. He was killed when his parachute didn’t open on his escape capsule when he had to bail out of a damaged B-58 Hustler.

I bought a 30' telescoping pole and upgraded to a 4' x 6' flag from a veteran owned company. Everything was great until I reached for the flag box and saw in big letters "Made in China". I was flabbergasted. They advertised as American made. Perhaps their 3' x 5' flags, but not the larger ones. We immediately ordered an Annin. We buy Made in America items and avoid PRC junk wherever and whenever possible. It's difficult and sometimes quite costly, but well worth it. I would never compromise on something like an American flag. EVER!
