Magazine won't eject

I put a mag in my S&W 39-2 and noticed that the release button was still recessed. I gave the mag a good whack and the button popped up, but now the mag won't eject. I've emptied all the rounds from the gun so it's not loaded at least. I don't want to go at it with a tool for fear of scratching or bending something.
suggestions?

What S&W semi-auto ?

You might try removing the mag base and see if you can push the tube up and relieve the pressure on the mag catch. Do you have aftermarket grips or is it a aftermarket mag? You might remove the grips and strike the mag release with a rubber mallet.

Try locking the slide back and push down on the magazine from the ejection port while holding the mag release button in.

SOUNDS LIKE A RUSTY MAG CATCH SPRING. SHOOT IT FULL OF WD-40 OR GIBS AND WAIT TILL THE MORNING. THE MAG CATCH THAT IS.
