I have an M&P Pro Series 5" that I use for competition and love it. I picked up a used M&P Pro Series C.O.R.E. that I wanted to start using for competition and keep my original as a back up. As soon as I got it home to check it out I quickly discovered when I press the mag release the magazine comes out only about 3/4" which means I have to pull it out to put in a new one, not good! My original Pro doesn't have that problem nor do any of my other M&P's. Called S&W and they recommended I sent it in for them to check it out. Sent it in and just got it back yesterday and it still has the same problem! Any idea what could cause this?

I've got a 5" Core that works (and always has) perfectly. How many mags have you tried (and how many rounds)? Still shouldn't make a difference. I'd also look in the magwell and see if there's anything protruding, like a piece of plastic casting flash. If all looks OK, I'd contact S&W again (I know, that's a hassle, but...). That's definitely not right.

I've tried the 2 mags that came with it and 5 of the 7 I have for my original Pro 9 and they all do the same thing. I've contacted S&W again and waiting to hear from them. Thanks,

I never had that happen, but you could try to put the mag in and then take it out a bunch of times and see if that might smooth it up a little bit.

This problem not restricted to M&P's.
We(the 5-6 guys I train with-IDPA) thoroughly clean than put a little Break Free or dab of grease on the mags(wipe clean to very light) and inside mag well before every match(monthly). That is for all our guns - M&P's, 1911's, Glocks, etal. Seems to be working so far. Been doing that for 12months. Dont want to try to shoot match now without doing this. Problem seems worse in cold weather - could be change expansion/contration with temp change problem, or dirty mag/mag well or all.

I swapped my mag release from one side to the other the other day.

Afterwards, the same mags I normally use "stuck" in the magwell.

I was kind of perplexed, so while I thought about it, I rubbed a small amount of Froglube CLP on them and wiped them down.

After that, no problem, they pop out like a toaster going 'ding!'.

OK, so i finally get the C.O.R.E. back from S&W it works great! According to the work order they replaced the mag catch and deburred the parting lines in the mag well. I shot it in a weekly competition that I'm in this past Sunday and it I love it. Thanks to all for your input.
