Just got my UTG Tactical Flashlight/Laser and Magpul B.A.D in, and I'm sad to say the B.A.D doesn't work properly with the 15-22. I'll explain...

I knew something was fishy when the device rubbed against the trigger guard. And metal scraping against polymer makes a very ugly sound. Add to that, with an empty magazine in, pulling back on the bolt action did not allow the bolt to stay back with the B.A.D attached. When I removed the B.A.D, the the bolt stayed back when pulled. I guess the weight on it doesn't allow it to work. :(

Definitely not having much luck with Magpul lately, that's for sure!

You are buying AR parts for a .22 rifle. It's not an AR at all other than appearance. You might try calling Magpul to see if they have a list of what they know to fit, what can be mod'ed to fit, and what doesn't work at all. This is as bad as if I was mad M1 Carbine parts didn't fit my Ruger 10/22. I know that's stretching it a bit but you get my point I hope. So, yes, you are being informative but at your wallet's and your sanity's expense.

I know it's not an AR, but somehow I just expected more parts to work. I mean what with Magpul stuff not fitting correctly to our picatinny rails being smaller than normal, I mean it's like having an AR with issues! Not cool! I'm surprised more people haven't complained about this stuff, or made a list of what works/doesn't work.

Or you could do a "search" on these forums. The installation of the Magpul BAD has been covered many times, and there were recently some very good how-to threads on what minor modification is needed to the BAD lever to make it work without a hitch.

I'm guessing that your problem is with the Battery Assist Device (B.A.D.).
If so I'm not especially surprised with all the issues people have had with the bolt hold open as it comes from the factory.
Its probably not working because its binding on the lower (the grinding noise?) and not letting the lever move freely.
One way to 'fix' it might be to move or bend the lever so it doesn't contact the lower and maybe do the spring cutting fix to allow the mag to push the hold open easier.

Good Luck and let us know how you make out.

It's not an AR, it's a 15-22.

Sure, but it's supposed to work with AR attachments, right?

In any case, thanks for the B.A.D links. Hopefully I can make it work... I still think it would be nice to have a sticky for these guides... :)

I love simple solutions to problems.

Well if it hadn't been for some helpful (and some mean!) people, I'd never have known you could bend it without destroying it.

I will admit, though, that I miss being able to slam the bolt closed with my left hand. ;(

Looking at how it fits I don't see any reason why you can't still do that.
Just for fun anyway.

A number of 15-22 folk have successfully installed the B.A.D, Follow this link.

I got rid of the B.A.D device. It really doesn't work on the 15-22, even after modifying it. Basically, the bolt won't lock back when the magazine is empty! So each time I put a new magazine in I have to pull the bolt back to feed the next round. After removing the B.A.D, the bolt locks back after each magazine is empty, no issue.

So, dumped the B.A.D. Oh well. :(

Anyone got anything to say about my above statement? I actually like the B.A.D, but with the bolt not locking back on the final round, I end up dry firing by mistake after the magazine is empty! Is there a fix for this?

I am going to find a way to make this work.....or something like it, or I might have to start experimenting. I will not alter the receiver in any way.

WilliamG, I think that some of the negative responses you get from forum members in your posts (and this isn't the first one where you've been unkind to Magpul) come from statements like this:

Definitely not having much luck with Magpul lately, that's for sure!

This is not Magpul's fault. Magpul designed their products to work with AR-15s that meet the TDP, and under those circumstances they work very well. The M&P 15-22 is not an AR-15, and it does not meet the TDP.
However, this forum has many ingenious members who have come up with very elegant ways of adapting products from various vendors to work with the M&P 15-22. I think that once you accept that some aftermarket products will need tweaking and modifications to work with your 15-22, you'll be much happier with your purchases.

You can hardly blame me when there's no easy-to-find list of accessories that work/don't work on the forum... The way people talk about Magpul, I really expected them all to just work! :)
