Magpul flip up sights (airsoft)

I have not tried them, but been contemplating them for a while. I'm trying to prioritize some purchases and make my mind up. I don't shoot everyday (I'd like too) and I don't buy top of the line accessories. I'm running a $40 halo and love it after 1000+ rounds and it holds zero perfectly. I have a 3-9x40 BSA Scope that was given to me and it was beat to you know what. Sanded, taped and sprayed with Camp Green Satin Krylon Primer plus Paint and I am thoroughly impressed. The camp green satin krylon matches the OD Green M&P perectly! Point is, and I know the flames are coming, I don't spend allot on accessorizing and I do buy knock off's from time to time and the ones I have chosen are excellent performers. As soon as I figure out my optics and mount setups, the airsoft knockoff's are next on my list.

Am I missing the question, Magpul doesn't make AIRSOFT flip up MBUS sights, they make MBUS sights that can be used for real weapons as well as airsoft. I checked and the price is the same for the Magpul even in airsoft web sites. Now I would love to see the exact sightes half price for airsoft, but that about the same as seeing bigfoot in my yard..

That being said, I know of Aimpoint clones that people use for Airsoft (I use to play Paintball), so the clones are 99% copy of the real Aimpoint and can handle some of the original Aimpoint parts, example SightMark, pretty much a ML3 clone. This I have on my M&P 15/22, I can't see buying an optic that cost more than my rifle, it goes against the grain.. The SightMark is a great clone in it's own rights, it works great and for plinking and training, you can't beat that price.

I stand corrected, apparently Magpul does make an Airsoft MBUS labeled PTS, they use a cheaper plastic molding ver. the good ones for centerfire weapons. From users, they tend not to be rated for real firearms, just airsoft weapons. So I learned something new today... never to late to learn, won't be the first nor my last..

Unit505, make sure you read the title correctly, it says MBUS "STYLE", those are knock off's not original. Original PTS cost the same as regular Magpul MBUS sights. I have heard people that buy those knock off's have used them with no problem, just letting you know.

I just got a set in the mail, from what I can see, they are pretty decent. Ive used the original metal ones on my AR and these seem pretty close, sure, they are plastic (Really tough plastic) but its a .22, are you going to war with it?

Just want to point this out to everyone who doesn't realize:

Magpul Back Up Sights (MBUS) *are indeed* plastic but NOT Airsoft sights- they are fully functional , combat sights for AR-15 platform.

They make a PTS line Professional Training & Simulation or something like that- this is ALSO plastic, but this is like a lower quality, lesser-rated plastic set of parts like MBUS/Stocks etc. designed for Airsoft.

Will the PTS work on the 15-22 and save you money, Absolutely. Will you ever have a problem? Probably not, but it's possible.

The actual MBUS are absolutely ready to rock and roll rugged, and will not only last forever on your 15-22 but can and do go to war in Iraq and Afghanistan if necessary.

Just so everyone realizes there is a difference.

You honestly believe that a set of $13 sights with free shipping is genuine Magpul PTS?

I didn't say that. I merely stated a fact. You mentioned China. I simply mentioned that Magpul does have a facility there. I believe that facility and the way Magpul web sites are set up makes the problem worse.

This is from their website:
Magpul Professional Training & Simulation (PTS) was established in 2007 to meet worldwide demand for airsoft-compatible Magpul accessories. Based in Hong Kong, Magpul PTS provides high quality airsoft products suitable for both non-lethal training applications and civilian airsoft sporting use.

Is it any wonder people get confused? Most people expect that airsoft pricing is cheaper than regular pricing. They know that the normal pricing on Magpuls BUIS is around $100/set.
They search and find Magpul PTS, see the location and subsequently find lower priced parts with the PTS name on them. Easy assumption to make. I didn't find any mention on the HK PTS website to look out for fakes.

If Magpul wants to minimize the confusion they easily can. Check out the Magpul-PTS website. Try to find the info on the BUIS products..... For that matter, is there an easy to find website that has genuine Magpul PTS sights?

I agree the $13 sights are bad.

MM doggie, you're alright, well said.. Been using Magpul for several years, all my AR15s have MBUS flip up sights. My M&P 15/22 is a training AR to save me on the cost of ammo. I have read some issues on the Magpul PTS needing two fingers to press to pop up, wiggle in them as well. I think I'll stick to the good stuff, but I'm not knocking clones or cheaper products, all users need to read up and just be aware of what they are getting and for what uses you plan on using these items. As a trainer, you have more le-way, on my AR15, everything has to work when I reach for them period, so the best for them. The rest, well I will decide based on my research.. Keep them in the X... appreciate your response, on the money buddy.

Awhile back I got suckered into a cheap set of the PTS. The front sight is worthless. The rear is marginal. Others have had better results.

I really wish someone would come up with a pair of good fold down sights in the $50/pair price range.

I've worked for American companies that have had foreign knockoffs of our products shipped into America. In our case it was a patent and software copyright infringement issue. US laws are set up to where the company whose products are being infringed needs to be active and make the effort to minimize the problem. I don't feel it is customs responsibility to open every package that comes into the US, look at each article and then compare the item to the latest list of Patents and Trademarks. Shipping into the US would be stopped.
Does going after infringers cost money and add to the cost of the product? Absolutely but it is amazingly (based on personal experience in a company that was about the size of what Magpul is now) inexpensive, especially now with websites, etc. and internet search engines.

Again:

I really wish someone would come up with a pair of good fold down sights in the $50/pair price range. Plastic or metal would be fine. I can buy reasonable quality fishing reels for $30 built with way more parts, metal and plastic than a set of rifle sights contains...

Obviously if someone can make a set and ship them to the US for $12, how difficult would it be to get better plastic material (if it is even needed) better springs and tweak the mold for a better fit. At the same time, modifiy the mold to remove any other company logos. If there is a patent, in most cases it would be a design patent, not an utility patent so changing the shape substantially would take care of that issue. Fold down peep sights have been around a long time.

Pursuant to the old thread I got a couple of the knock-off PSD type sights a few months ago. The price was reasonable and good enough for what I wanted--which was something to replace the rather ugly stock 15-22 sights and look cool doing it. I'm running a Bushnell TR-25 anyway so they stay folded down. I ordered two sets in case something was wrong with one set. That leaves me with an extra set which I ought to sell ( anybody interested?).

When it comes to serious gear I get the good stuff; but this is a practice piece and the money I saved with the airsoft wanna-be sights went into ammo.

Sometimes I do flip them up for the thrill of it all.

Apparently, Amazon is selling Magpul PTS flip ups, some offical Magpul PTS and some clones of tht PTS. It is the clone PTS from (over seas) that are giving the real PTS a bad name. Per Magpul the quality of the PTS MBUS are just as good minus the higher strength resin. So buyer beware, if the price is TOO GOOD for the PTS, you may be getting the cheap cheap knock offs.. Good luck shoppers.

Everyone at the range makes fun of me because my MBUS are not genuine© authentic® Magpul™ plastic.

I guess my sarcasm was lost on you. I certainly do not care. I was having a dig at those who get their identity by the logo on their gear.

"Pfff, you only have the PTS version?"

Nope!!!

I don't care either. If it works I use it.
