Other than the fact that the CTR appears to have two "levers" what is the difference? What does the second "lever" do? Why do so many prefer either over the stock that ships with the rifle? Thanks in advance for any info!

The second lever gives it a really snug fit. The CTR has Mount for QD Sling Swivel also. Those are the only two differences.

I have a CTR on my 15-22 and it provides a relatively tight fit and no "stock wobble". Probably the best $90, I've spent on it...

agreed no side to side wobble and raquet... mines still has a very tiny forward and back play tho, very tiny... i am happy with the purchase

The stock that comes with the M&P 15-22 is just fine.

The Magpul and other after-market stocks have a "kool" factor and are largely a factor of form over function. Any benefits are imaginary or marketing or tiny increments better. OK, the stock locks tighter. So what? Of coyote brown is this season's fashionable color!

In fact the USGI stock that came on my 20 year old M4 is just fine too, although it's totally lacking in 21st century levers, buttons, compartments, or koolness.

It ain't cool unless it makes you drool! Upgrades are made for any number of reasons, but some have function or reason. I upgraded because I like the extra width the ACS provides with the battery/storage compartments. The stock provides me a better cheek weld so I get on target quicker with a more natural shooting position. The added benefits are the compartments for storage.

I'm in 100% agreement with you on the ACS stock. I found the it to be a big improvement over the factory stock because of the increased surface area it provides for a solid cheek weld. When I bring the rifle up into firing position it just feels "right" every time now. Before I was much more conscious about trying to get it right and develop that position into muscle memory. The ACS makes that effortless, at least for me. Everyone is a little different so it might not work as well for others... But all I can say is that I'll be putting an ACS on any future black rifles that I may purchase and it'll probably be the 2nd purchase for each of them after optics.

Just because you don't see any improvement, doesn't mean that others won't. Everyone is built differently and has to find out what works best for them. If you're happy with factory parts and they work for you that's great, lucky you... some people find that they need to customize their rifles in order to adjust their fit and function to their needs/tastes. It's your right to have an opinion so I'm not trying to take away from that, but you shouldn't frame it as being the definitive answer. It's not.

For me... the factory stock wasn't bad however, the ACS is much better.

Nobody has chimed in on the MOE yet. I'm very pleased with mine. It is $50 well spent. It doesn't have the additional friction lock or QD sling swivel point that the CTR does, but it locks up tight and doesn't wiggle at all. The original stock had waaay too much play in it.

I changed my AR-15 butt stock out to the CTR because the original one rattled! For me it was function over form this one time. I liked the looks of the original over the CTR, which is slightly smaller and it threw off the symmetry:cool:, but it doesn't rattle anymore!

I will second the MOE version. I do not have the CTR. The MOE is very tight, maybe just a little too tight. It is the Mil-spec version. I am very happy with it. Don't need the QD sling point on the stock.
