So I've been bitten by the upgrades bug...and I think I'm pretty much done for now (pics later), but can't help but wonder. I've bought a couple Magpul items and they seem extremely well made and I have no regrets at all, but what would I have to gain by changing the factory stock? Is it a precision issue? Comfort in some way? I'd love to hear from anyone who has gone from OEM S&W to one of the Magpul stocks.

I put a magpul on my rifle. I like the fact the the magpul has a lock on it so the stock fits tight without any slop. It always annoyed me that the factory stock would rattle and seemed loose.

Which Magpul stock did you get?

i just use the moe buttstock. for like 45 bucks, well designed, & comfy. i felt like it was money well spent. mbus, mags, fore grip, rail covers, sling plate, there good quality stuff @ a affordable price.

That's the part I wondered about. The factory / oem one does seem a little sloppy. Not like I'm taking this thing into battle or anything, but I wondered if the Magpul (or other) stock would fit better, or just feel like a better quality piece.

I have a Magpul MOE on both my 15-22 and my BCM 5.56. On both rifles, they lock up very tight and are solid stocks. Of course, they don't lock up 100% tight like the Magpul CTR that madmikeb is talking about ( I think that's what he means), but the MOE is half the price of a CTR too...
