cant go wrong with magpul pmags - the 30 rd gen 2 MOE mags will probably be the least expensive - if you want 20 rds then they will be gen 3. Personally I would get several (a lot!) of the 30 rounders and a few 20 rounders (better for shooting off a bench)

The go-to mag for most people are Magpul. Great mag, variety of colors (for now), and round size for at a great price. No need to pay more than 9 bucks are so per mag these days. I'll buy from whomever can sell me 30 round mags for around 9 bucks per mag.

D&H / Sabre Tactical 30 Round 5.56 Magazine - Mil Spec Black Aluminum QUOTE=Buckey08;138293722]Any one know if the Brownells mag or the D&H mags are worth buying?[/QUOTE]

That's all I use. USGI magazines. I have alot of them. Most of mine are colt magazines that I was buying for$10 each before the panic. I replaced the springs and followers in the used ones. The link has the D&H magazines for $6.27. I have only 1 magpul 30 round magazine, it came with my M&P sport.

The Brownells tan follower mag is current military issue and good to go. Don't know about D&H but the tan Brownells follower is anti tilt like the Magpul and the green follower is not, I would only buy D&H mags with Magpul followers. Check prices at Brownells, they have usually have some pretty good package deals. BCM or DSG also have good sale prices on mags sometimes, right now it is a buyers market on AR stuff so I would stock up, same goes for ammo.

Quantico Tactical has multi-pack's listed....5 for $50 and 10 for $90, or you can get singles for $12.30 each...or a case of 100 for $850. Hmmm sounds like cheap stocking stuffer's for next year for a LOT of friends.
Windowless PMAGs 5 for $50!

The D&H mags are good to go. I usually buy them from Widener's online. There was a sale on Barney purple mags w/magpul followers for $5.00.

I don't give a whit about magazine color. All I care about is that they work. I bought 3 of them. They work great in my 2 AR's. They work great in my IWI Tavor. Since they're military pattern, they also work in my friend's FN FS2000.

They worked. I bought another 15 grey ones when they were on sale.

I buy whatever is on sale. I usually check the website twice a week. Here are the ones priced at $6.50

Advice to the new guy:

I grabbed a couple of Magpul.....10 rd mags awhile back ........ nice for the range.. prone..... or very low profile on a "modern sporting rifle"

a 20 rd mag is nice primary for "in and out" of vehicles.....still works on the bench..... or prone....... a pair should be more than enough for home defense........

30rd mags are ....... well...... 30 rounds..... for TEOTWAWKI.....LOL

before the "responses" start...... I do have more than a few 30rd mags... a few are even loaded..just can't remember the last time I used one!!!!!

What is that crazy word? I use my 30rd magazines, at least in the military, when I go to the range. Plan on doing the same here

When shooting off a bench rest or prone for bullseye groups, the overall height added by the 30+ round mags becomes cumbersome. I've got a couple MagPul 10 rounders just for shooting off a bench or prone.

I also use them when I need something extra to back up my self control. When I'm having an off day at the range, I get frustrated. When I get frustrated, I will keep pulling the trigger to try and figure out what I'm doing wrong. The more I get frustrated, the greater the "off day" becomes. Switching to the 10-rounders forces me to pause, step back, and calm the heck down.

TEOTWAWKI.....= the end of the world as we know it....... aka.... TSHTF!!!

LOL

Most of my .223 shooting is precision shooting or "double taps"..... like JaPes....... 10 round (or 20s) slow me down and allow more mag change practice....... ( I work not to get into a set pattern)

I also like the "very low profile" of the 10rd mag in my 1990s Bushmaster with an Ace fixed stock and 1-4x20 scope...... some folks don't even realize it's an AR., with the almost flush fit MagPul 10 round magazine.

Edit: Just cus there is a 10 round magazine in the gun does not mean there aren't a couple loaded 20 or 30 round magazines handy!!!!!!

As an FYI you can't hunt with a semi in Pa.

As an aside.....my favorite .223 is my CZ 527FS (mannlicher/fullstock) with a 1-4x20 Leupold scope.... this CZ has a "micro mauser" action ( prefectly sized for the .223 and 7.62x39 rounds) and a 20.5 inch barrel......... weighting in at just 6lb
