Makarov

For some reason, I really want an alloy Hungarian FEG PA-63.
I bought one of these new about twenty-five years ago. Sharp recoil, surprisingly, and not a lot to hold on to making it generally unpleasant to shoot. Seemed to be a well made pistol but I didn't keep mine long.

That's one caliber I'll be good for the forseeable future.

What handgun(s) do you have in that round? I have a Circle 10 Bulgarian Mak with the Red Star grips and a Polish P64.

I have been interested in the P64 for sometime. I have handled them but not shot one. It seemed small, but heavy for it's size. I assume that helps with recoil. The sights were tiny, how do you get along with them?

Have a little from over the last 20 years here. Interesting little gun (Russian made) and as mentioned above it does bark lol.

I was referring in the above post to an FEG 9x18, but I did have a Makarov in .380 for a good while. Good guns, but not nearly as compact as the FEG. However, the Makarov is much more controllable and easier to shoot than than the FEG, at least for me.

The Makarov was accurate and reliable, even with cast bullet handloads for which it was never designed. One in 9x18 should do just as well as my .380.

The P64 seems a nice little pistol until you try to shoot the first round in DA. The only comparable feeling is trying to do the same thing with the Nagant designed for "Other Ranks". Roughly a 20-25 pound trigger pull. Thus I no longer own either but my East German Makarov (first purchase on an FFL 3 many years ago) is pleasant and accurate. Dave_n

big fan of the FEG PA-63

I really like the FEG PA-63.. so much so I have gifted one to a friend's son and my son. They were Eagle Scouts together..
I use one as an EDC... all of mine are POA/POI and point in my hand naturally just like pointing my finger

I looked at these guns at a SHOT Show years ago and was impressed. I had a friend/FFL holder order one after the show; seems like it was only around $150.00, maybe less. Considering the quality, it would have been a good buy at a significantly higher price.

While I didn't enjoy shooting mine, it was still a good pistol.

My first pistol in that caliber was a PA 63. They feel great in the hand, they do point very well. The problem is when you shoot, it's brutal. The combination of light frame, blowback recoil, and grip angle make it painful- more painful than a lot of bigger caliber pistols.
After accumulating a number of pistols, I sold mine to a friend, and replaced it with a PA in .32 acp. It's still a bit snappy, but not near what the Mak rd is.

My personal preference for the caliber is a CZ 82, it's barely thicker, and answers almost every desire you could have for that caliber. Despite owning a lot of 9 Lugers, I'd say the CZ 82 is one of the first guns I'd pick to carry.

I really like the caliber, I prefer it over 380. It's my niche caliber between 9x19 and 32acp.

I have (and regularly carry) an FEG R61 which is a nice compact pistol, close in size to a PPK. Smaller than the more common P64 pistols I believe it is a commercial version of the Pa-63. Double action pull is heavy but consistent, single action is nice, an easy gun to hit with. I find the recoil quite manageable, far better than the similar sized Polish P-64 pistols that were widely available surplus a few years ago. I have a good stash of 9X18 ammo as well as dies to reload for it. It is an easy cartridge to load, new brass has been available from Starline and in a pinch can be made from 9mm Luger by expanding and trimming.

I am fond of the caliber, own a few different guns that shoot it. The little R-61 is a nice, dependable carry gun. The FEG guns in general are well made handguns.

The P64 is a well made little gun. It's strictly close in (7yds or less) with those small sights.

Also, the DA trigger is in the neighborhood of 39lbs, for real. They make spring kits for it, but the SA is actually pretty good. I left mine stock

The recoil isn't bad. But, it's not a gun you'd really take to the range to target shoot all day with either.

It's a collector piece IMHO.

If that's for 50 rounds, not too bad in today's market.

It is for 50 rounds. Not great, but not too bad either.:)

I have a Circle 10 Bulgarian Makarov with Red Star grips too. It is the only gun I got in that caliber. May look at others if the price is right.
