Makarov

some early imported with a .389 barrel. i think a gunsmith could fit a new barrel on some of the newer ones.

That's a good price for today. The only 9x18 I still have is a CZ82. Mostly I shoot handloads with cut down 9x19 brass and cast bullets from a Lee mold. That way I don't mind when I loose a few fired casings.

Well the old gunsmith cure is to cut turns off the hammer spring. But you at the very least better have a spare spring just in case. I have a CZ70 and the trigger DA was awful. I trimmed the hammer spring a tiny bit till it was still slightly compressed with the hammer down. I think a turn and a half or so, with a Dremel cutoff tool. Certainly made it lighter but it needs more work for smoothness. Felt good till I put the side plate back on. I wonder if the trigger bar has some interference or what. But modding springs is always at your own risk. That is why it is an old gunsmith trick, instead of an old Billy Bob trick. For something like a range plinker you can take chances, not for your CCW!

For some reason, I really want an alloy Hungarian FEG PA-63.
That is an excellent choice! I've had several, and all would hold head shots at 20 yards. Freakishly accurate guns!

I've had this East German Mac for over 20 years now, had the sights upgraded by the long out of business Makarov. Com. (Remember them). Have just about a lifetime of ammo purchased over the years.
Maks are excellent little pistols in my opinion. Glad I don't have to chase ammo for them now days.

I read a pretty good comparison the other day. It said that the AK to the rifle category is the same as the Makarov is to the pistol category. I guess it meant that while maybe not built to strict tolerances, they both will run under all circumstances.
