make veterans pay for treatment of service related injuries with private insurance

This is wrong on so many levels I dont know where to start...
1. Its the scumiest plan this $@#^&%$ has leak-floated yet... (
2. Many vets dont have jobs to come back to, let alone medical insurance.
3. Many vets will need mental health services... which is barely covered at all.
4. Many vets are suffering foreclosure at home with their families evicted.
5. Many vets get shafted by the VA anyway... consider what some HMO will do.
6. US Military staffing levels are running down & this will not get people to sign up.
7. I find this proposal the most insideous slap in the face to all that serve this
country and put their lives at risk - god forbid they get severely wounded and
8. Some will need months of rehab... again, imagine an HMO saying "sorry, we
dont think you need that wheelchair, you still have one leg left."
9. This will destroy our proud NG and regular military from the inside out.

Where do I start? If the men and women that put their lives and limbs in peril so we can live free have to tolerate this program, something is very rotten in Washington.

My wife's uncle died a horrific death on the Bataan death march,which she refuses to discuss. To me this constitutes urinating on the graves of all veterans. If I told everyone how I really feel, I would be thrown off this site.

This brings back all the crap and demonstrations relating to the Viet Nam era, I hope we don't go there again.

A couple points.

First: From what I've seen of the VA's services, if a veteran can get health care anywhere else but there he/she's probably going to get faster care, better quality from folks who are truly interested in their health. Some of the vets on the board may want to dispute this, but my opinion has come from seeing not only my family members seeking care there but family members who work there.

Second: Even if a returning veteran had health coverage through his own insurance, there is no guarantee that it will cover injuries suffered by an act of war. Even if the policies will cover the insured, it won't take too many claims for them to enact an exclusion.

The public must closely scrutinize everything our so called public servants do for the next few years. They'll try something when you least expect it. Even if something seems really good, make sure you read the fine print. And then read it again!!

There are still some however.

I hope the current serving military comes back and siezes power from the current bunch running things.

It seems that the quality of care in the VA system varies widely from place to place. My experience has been that my local VA is more efficient, less bureaucratic, more responsive and much more patient oriented than the local civilian medical empire, which is basically run by the insurance companies, accountants and lawyers.

That says to me that whoever is running things can make a very big difference, unless the organization is so large that the sheer numbers of patients overwhelm everything..

I fully understand that others have had completely opposite experiences.
