Looking for the date of manufacture on a new to me 629-4 Classic. Product code is 103638. Serial #BRY9852.
Thanks for any info.

Welcome! BRY is a simple serial number prefix. This series started with AAA in 1980 and in revolvers is currently well into the Ds.

There is nothing special about it, except possibly if your first name is BRYan. :)

It is interesting the Special Order code has both 4207 (July 26) and 4263 (September 20, 1994). This is generally thought to be the date the gun was packed and ready to ship so I have no idea why two numbers are stamped there. It should be close to its ship or sales date, but only a letter of authenticity will give you the exact day:

Letters – Smith & Wesson Historical Foundation

S & W tracks gun age by this date, not the day guns are manufactured.
