Several measures are being proposed in the New York State Legislature (Politburo). As you are reading through it is a terrifyingly reminder of what Totalitarianism really is. I urge you all to contact a legislator.

*Assembly Bill 801A and its Senate companion, S 1598A, would require five-year renewals on pistol licenses.

*Assembly Bill 1093 and its Senate companion, S 1715, would create liability for legal firearm retailers when criminals misuse firearms.

*Assembly Bill 1275 and its Senate companion, S 1712, would outlaw the private sale and transfer of long guns.

*Assembly Bill 1326 and its Senate companion, S 5228, would outlaw all handguns sold in the state not equipped with so-called "child-proofing" measures.

*Assembly Bill 2881 and its Senate companion, S 2379, would ban the sale of common self-defense and hunting ammunition.

*Assembly Bill 2884 would prohibit gun shows on public property.

*Assembly Bill 2885 and Assembly Bill 2910 would establish standards for guns sold in the state and would allow the state police to prevent ANY firearm they deem unsafe from being transferred into the state.

*Assembly Bill 3200 and its Senate companion, S 2953, would require ammunition coding or bullet serialization.

*Assembly Bill 3346 would outlaw affordable handguns commonly used for self-defense.

*Assembly Bill 3477 and its Senate companion, S 1188, would expand the failed 10-year-old, ballistic imaging program to include even more firearms.

*Assembly Bill 4441 and its Senate companion, S 4338, would prohibit the manufacture, sale or transfer of handguns not equipped with so-called "smart gun" technology.

*Assembly Bill 5844 and its Senate companion, S 3098, would prohibit keeping firearms available for self-defense in the home.

*Assembly Bill 6157 and Assembly Bill 6294 and their Senate companion, S 4084, would drastically expand the state's ban on so-called "assault weapons" to include virtually all semi-automatic rifles and pistols that can accept detachable magazines.

*Assembly Bill 6468B and its Senate companion, S 6005, would outlaw the sale of all semi-automatic handguns not equipped with so-called "microstamping" technology.

*Senate Bill 4752 would ban certain firearms based upon bore diameter.

These legislators have no understanding of what FREEDOM is. They should be ashamed.

We'll they have nothing else to do. I mean the NY economy is doing great, the budget is balanced and they have a governor not facing criminal charges this year (so far).

Remind them that the Bill of Rights (including the 2nd) was passed and sent to the States for ratification on September 25, 1789 at Federal Hall in New York City.

What every NY gun owner should do is fork over the $25 and join NYSRPA, which is the official NRA affilliate in NY.

This info must be totally incorrect and misleading?
It just has to be! Remember all the people that said tougher gun laws wouldn't be part of the agenda? Technically they were correct, no new federal laws (for now). Why should D.C. take it in the shorts to accomplish it. This way the executive and legislative branches have left no finger prints at the scene. And it's the state mini-me politicians that catch the blame. It's much easier for them if they regionalize the fight. No pesky nation wide media to deal with that way. And don't worry, even if these laws go down in flames, they'll be back after ammo again.
(EDIT)
That's along the lines of what they're trying here too...

Jetpilot007,
I see you are from Weschester. I'm on Long Island. I currently belong to the NYSRPA, and the NRA. I write and call my Senators, (LOL) Waste of time, but I do it anyway. Write congressman, and try to recruit as many new NRA and NYSRPA as I can. Time allows me to do what I can. We need more people in this state to do anything that their lifestyle allow. Keep fightin the good fight. We will eventually prevail.

Tom, this horrendous infringement of our 2nd Amendment Rights must be fought at the ballot box. We need to call these politicians and voice our opinions. We MUST ALSO REMIND THEM ABOUT WHAT HAPPENED IN MA.

Our wonderful country is not Europe, is not Canada, and not the UN (Useless Nations).

NY is about to elect a US Senator, a governor, and a host of other politicians. Join with other right thinking people in the NRA and NYSRPA, and become a thorn in the side of the politicians.
Insist that you will not vote for and will in fact actively work against any politician of either party who does not strongly support the citizens' right to self defense.
Politicians are frightened witless (not hard for many) right now, keep them that way.

I agree. We need to wipe the slate clean here in NY. I am already a member of the NRA. I am going to call the NYSRPA and sign up.

Additionally let us hope for great news in March when the US Supreme Court will here the Chicago case. If this goes in our favor, it will be a MAJOR VICTORY as the "Right to Bear Arms" will be applicable to the states.

From the New York State Constitution
ARTICLE XII (9)
Defense
[Defense; militia]
Section 1. The defense and protection of the state and of the United States is an obligation of all persons within the state. [italics mine, jw.] The legislature shall provide for the discharge of this obligation and for the maintenance and regulation of an organized militia.

How many of these new laws are unconstiutional? Ask your State legislator!

Thanks for posting this, but note that NY is one of the few states that does not have a direct 2nd Amendment equivalent. Penal Law Article 35 on justification helps, but it's a a statute, not the constitution.

Understood. However, I would argue that without individuals with arms, ready and to hand, the first sentence of Article XII, Section 1 is meaningless and that many of the laws being proposed attempt to do just that. Interestingly, that same sentence of the Article makes no distinction between Residents of the State, temporary visitors or, those just passing through.

Jetpilot, there's a local group in Westchester aptly called WCFOA, West. County Firearms Owners Association. They have been,so far, successful in stopping the 5 yr renewal scheme that Spano tried to ram down county residents throats. To clarify, there is a 5 yr renewal in West, Spano wanted to change the process to applying all over again as if you never had a license.

Westchester County residents have to "Recertify" every 5 years. Other counties in NYS have lifetime permits. Isn't NY great? One pays $5 to see if Mr. X is still alive and well.

I have heard about Westchester Firearms Association. I have heard mixed reviews. I have to say, IMHO, $$$ is best spend at the NRA. Remember we have the Big Case in March - McDonald Versus Chicago.

On a final note, Pistol Permit amendments in Good Ol' Westchester is now, I am being told, taking 3 weeks to process. 3 weeks just to sign a document that says, "Joe Schmo is the registered owner of X firearm." I blame the politicians who set up this DRACONIAN & INEFFECTIVE Pistol permit system.

The Politicians, the Real Experts. Yeah right.

Pineapples have better Judgment.

Yep, you're correct on the timetables. In Putnam, we still have paper licenses , but no restrictions, no recerts.

This happens every single year in New York.

Up until a year ago the Senate stood tall against the anti-gun Assembly, but now the Senate has been lost.

Thus far, the NY democrats are following the lead of the US democrats and refusing to bring up gun control. Guess they don't want to lose all those seats all over again. But it is an open issue whether the "democractic" senate (sort of) decides that it wants to make gun prohibition an issue. If that happens...save us...
