Marlin Lever Action...question.

Buy it yesterday. 357 mag Marlins are in great demand and hard find.

You are getting it at less than 1/2 price.

Buy it! You won't be sorry. I had one in the 80's that I sold. Wish I hadn't. I still have an 1894 in .45 Colt that I bought at the same time. I love that lever gun!

Buy it! I had one once, was told that because it had micro-groove barrels it wouldn't shoot cast bullets.

That's all I used, and it was one of the more accurate rifles I've ever owned.

If you decide not to purchase that rifle I would like the opportunity to buy it. Thanks

I sold one to Cabela's a couple of months for $400, they were expecting to get $600-$650 for it. Well used 357's have a wear issue where the "hand" rides on the bottom of the "elevator". A grove is worn into the bottom of the "Elevator" and the keeps the cartridge stop from working correctly and they wont feed 38 Specials. Replace the "elevator" or line the bottom with hardened metal [a de-toothed hack saw blade is the common fix] epoxied in place. Good luck. Ivan

Like other have said.. buy it. The S in "CS" stands for cross bolt safety, but don't let that deter you, I have a 1894S in .45 colt and love it.

One upgrade that I highly recommend is the Wild West Guns "Trigger Happy" kit, it removes the infamous Marlin "trigger flop" and improves the trigger pull.

There's a lot of debate on the Marlin Owners forum about the micro groove rifling and shooting lead bullets... I came away with the impression that lead hard cast bullets sized to the right diameter works as well as jacketed.

I doubled back and snagged it. Looked even better. Clean Lever action.
Looks like 1984 vintage JM marked. 18 inch barrel.
Marlin marked sling. All moving parts still sharp and crisp. Great bore.
Slick little lever action.
Doubt I would try it on East Texas Deer but with hard cast bullets it should work on pigs.
Thanks for all the imput..
I checked on GB after I got home and Wow...they are priced way up there.

Excellent buy! You could easily re-sell that one for $750 plus.

I purchased one a while back which had a good deal more wear for $450. Ended up returning it to the LGS where I bought it after two gunsmiths couldn't fix the cartridge elevator properly so it would feed .38 Specials. Later I learned about the hacksaw blade fix! Wish I still had it.

Nice, nice gun. I foolishly sold my .357/.44 Marlins as a kid and have wanted them back ever since.

As you've found, the .357 is much harder to come by than the .44 mag ...and it's a blast to shoot.

Great find and the price is a steal. Enjoy it!

Good thing you retired Howie. They could call you into I A for making a deal like that!!! Can you imagine what the did to the poor sucker they got it from! Really nice!! I love those Marlin levers especially 39a's.

My Sad Mistake

Upon reading your post, I reached for the "cry" button but alas, the forum doesn't have one. I owned the Marlin 1894 in .357 when they first came out and sold it like a fool. I deserve a cyber kick in the pants.

My one complaint, if any, was that the loading port spring was so strong I almost needed a screwdriver to force it open to load it.
