Martin JRM Philippine Mars last landing, Lake Pleasant, Arizona, Pima Air Museum, Coulson Air Tanker

Video description:
Decades in the making! Last landing of Philippine Mars, the huge Martin JRM flying boat headed for the Pima Air and Space Museum in Tucson, Arizona.

The Mars landed on Lake Pleasant, north of Phoenix. It was escorted by a number of aircraft, including the PB4Y-2 Privateer from Casa Grande, Arizona. The Mars will be disassembled as needed for highway transport to the Pima museum.

If you've never been to the Pima Air Museum...put it on your bucket list. It's an awesome place to visit. There are some very rare aircraft on site...a B36, a RA-5 Vigilante, the B52 sed to tote the X15 to altitude...too many to list.

The Mars is just going to be icing on the cake.

Very cool.

Pima Air & Space is a great museum... haven't been there in about 15 years, but I need to go now that we're close by. I wonder how long it will take to get the Mars disassembled/transported/reassembled and on display? Probably at least a year...

I go to the Pima museum every couple years, great place to spend a day. They have a P-47 and a P-38 that are currently being restored. I'm anxious for those to get on display!

Here’s the Sikorsky S-43, Baby Clipper at the Pima.
One noted Civilian S-43 owner was Howard Hughes.
Howard bought one to get ready to fly that Spruce Goose.
He managed to crash his S-43 at Lake Mead, two casualties.
Howard’s S-43 is now down in FL.

I was walking through Pima a week and a half ago with my son, and with all there is to see, one A/C put a smile on my face. The TH-55 was the first helicopter I flew back in the fall of 1968. I remember it like it was yesterday. I was hooked.

I never get tired of strolling through history at Pima. Two of their three Lockheed JetStar's are pretty much trashed, but the Presidential Flight Detachment JetStar looked good. It's been 18 years since flying our JetStar II. Those old Lockheed's are a different animal when compared to the 731 powered II.

The Martin JRM, known as Philippine Mars will be a great addition to a fantastic museum.

Staying at Loews Ventana Resort on the North side of town was fun too.
