Masterpiece K38 in Nickel

Here is my newly acquired K38 Combat Masterpiece in original nickel finish from 1953, 5 screw.
Adjustable sights, grooved trigger, anything special about the hammer? It Has N’s all over it.

Low usage, I’m on the fence about the grips. I assume they are aftermarket, but look old. They are wider than normal. Visually I like them and they look like real bone, but kind of bulky in hand. So, I have an original set on order.

I’ve been looking for a 4” nickel so I’m very pleased to have found this one, it’s just gorgeous to me. It’s out of a 300 plus collection of mostly like new pieces. I also grabbed a 19-3 in similar condition all whilst on safari for work.

Researching ammo I think what I have is good?

You've got a nice one! The stag grips do look a little thick, but they have a nice character. I love the Model 15.

The hammer is what S&W called a "High Speed Hammer," and it was standard on the K target guns of the period. I have no idea why it would have the letter N stamped on it. That isn't normal. Also, from your pictures, I can't tell even what color it is. It looks blued, but I'm pretty certain that is the fault of the lighting in your photos.

The ammo is fine, although it isn't what I would choose to shoot in it.

Overall, I'd say this is a nice pickup. Factory nickel plated .38 Combat Masterpiece revolvers from this period are not terribly common. Congrats!
