Does S&W do a semi in 9mm with a 4.5 or 5" barrel ?
Looking for something to shoot targets with.
Have been poking around but have not found that yet.
Steer me right.
Would like to stick to a S&W if possible .
Though shudder worthy , those CZ Dan Wessons look pretty good.

I second the Pro Series 9mm. I've handled one and was quite impressed with the fit and finish. The one I fondled was made in Springfield Mass, but I understand they are now being made in Houlton, Maine.

Aren't there 5" M&P 2.0 9mm pistols? Just a thought. Some Apex parts, and good to go.

not sure about the plastic toys they make these days, but they had a line called "target champion" here in Europe, in 9mm and 45 acp, based on their 3rd gems. the nines were 5 or 6 inch, adjustable rear sight and worked with the 59xx magazines. i see them every now and then on auctions, commanding quad-figure prices, and they are either stainless or two tone, with rubber or wooden grips. google "s&w target champion 9mm", and you will get an idea. :)

Match grade target grade none of them hold the candle to the original Browning Hi Power

as they say on disclaimers about gas milage, "your milage may vary." apparently in Europe thestandards are different. curently there is an fn high power capitan from 1969 and a regular one from 1962. the first still has 20 days to sell, one bid, at 599Euros, while the second, 3 days to go, one bid, 379 euros. these two are among the most pricey right now. the one s&w target champion there is, 3 days to go, 21 bids, 825 euros. i am preety sure it will hit 1300 before it sels. i too like the hp a lot, but not as much as the 3rd gems.

Yeah, sure. Why don't you compare a Novak Hi Power or another custom Hi Power to the 3rd gens? Funny that you compared a low end FN to the highest grade 3 rd gens out. Compare apples to apples and oranges to oranges.

sorry friend, i misunderstood your post earlier, where you said "original browning hi power." i did not realise you meant some newer special edition other than the original. i can not speak of a such, as currently there are no such listings. however, the ones i mentioned seem to have higher values than the newer production high powers listed. even in that case, i do not think that comparison can be based solely on price of an item. a 357 korth sells for three and a half times over a 357 smith. is the korth 3 and a half times better? if so, how? all i am saying is that target champion smiths, do make other pistols sweat to prove their worth. whichone is better? like i said earlier, your milage may vary. :)

The Target Champion series Smith & Wesson pistols in Europe are the Performance Center Limited guns in North America. The Target Champion Guns were imported by WISCHO and usually have Nill wood grips on the them, some have different color variations than the PC guns in North America and they often have script billboard-style writing along the slide. The 9mm Target Champion is quite comparable to the PPC-9 pistol. The .45cal Target Champion is a variation on the Model 845 Limited.

I am aware that there are a few scarce absolutely top-tier elite models of Browning Hi-Power that were made in irrationally short supply that are extremely valuable collector pistols and are likely quite capable in target work, but otherwise... no typical production and easily found Browning Hi-Power of any vintage could carry a S&W PC Limited target gun's jock in a wheelbarrow. Nor could any S&W M&P pistol that ever began life as a warm black goo in a mold.

I have a SW1911 Pro Series 9mm pistol and it is a decent handgun, fun to shoot and seems well-built. I personally believe that it is gorgeous in looks and curb appeal. In pure accuracy ability, it is solidly below PC Limited target pistols.

I've been through this to include the 952.
Nothing, including 1911s, did the job for me.
Then, at a match, I was able to shoot a CZ 75 Custom longslide.
The quest ended then and there.

I realize this is the S&W forum, but Springfield makes nothing to compare to this CZ.

again, "milage may vary" :) glad you found something that works for you friend!

I really like my SW1911 Pro. It is a great shooting pistol especially for a production gun. I have used it in PPC stock division relatively effectively. It shoots well out to 25 yards.

I also have a 952 and PPC9. They shoot better. 2 inch groups at 50 yards with most good production Ammo. But they don't make these anymore. And they are really different animals than production guns.

I also have a Springfield Armory 1911 Distinguished from the Custom Shop. I have used it in PPC Distinguished and Open divisions. It shoots slightly better groups than the PPC9 and 952 (I think) and the ergonomics are better in my opinion. But this is also a different animal from a production gun or a SW PC gun.

My favorite to own is the 952. My favorite to shoot is the Springfield Custom.

Just spitballing here, but if money is no i$$ue, why not take a Model 39-2 upper with good sights and place it on your Model 52? Looks to me like that would be just dandy! :D

I found a used Dan Wesson CZ Pointman 5".
A S&W 952 would be nice but $$$ the price !
