Looking for a new mattress to replace the one currently in use (approximately 15 years old, foam). Mattress is an odd size so must be custom made.

What are you sleeping on? Foam, air conventional mattress? Pros/cons?

How does one made by the original mattress compare to coil spring one?

Thanks for you help with this.

We have an adjustable bed with memory foam made by Serta. Took about two weeks to get used to it. Felt like sleeping on a rock. Now we can’t sleep on anything else.

Shop around, they are expensive. And if you get an adjustable, get one that’s independently adjustable.

Individual coil spring construction with a 4" foam top. How you sleep, (on your side, on your back, etc) will dictate which may be best for you. I am a side sleeper.

We got the My Pillow topper. Wifey swears by it. I'm OK with it. Pretty much fixed our 25 year old firm mattress, on the cheap.

But I will say I LOVE MY MY-PILLOW. It has improved my whole life. I had neck surgery in '14 and that pillow is a miracle for me!

We need a new one and looking at the brand Purple right now... seems high quality, mostly good reviews and less than a Sleep number.

Why custom made? What's the size if you don't mind me asking?!

My wife much prefers a soft mattress while I prefer firm. We were sleeping on a queen sized bed, soft of course, and my back was not happy. I replaced our single queen size mattress with two Twin XL's, one soft one firm. Life is good.

I would suggest researching talalay latex mattresses.
I have had one for several years, and for me, it is the best mattress I have ever slept on. The wife agrees.
Sleep Science is the brand I have. Got it from Costco.
If you call Sleep Science directly, their customer service is top notch.
Best,
Gary

My wife has a bad back (read three surgeries, and more to come probably). We sleep on a fully adjustable king sized Sleep Number bed. A tad on the pricey side, but some of the best sleep I have ever had. Like it enough that we have a queen sized Sleep Number in the guest bedroom.

Select Comfort/Sleep Number for us for the last 25 years.
We got one for the guest room also, and everyone loves it. The inlaws got one after they slept on ours.

If you can hack the shocking price, pony up the money for a Sleep Number Bed. Separate adjustments for each side. 20-year replacement warranty. In the long run, not much more expensive than multiple high quality conventional mattresses, and they just plain work better.
You will never need to buy another mattress again unless you are pretty young.

We went to memory foam, with the result that sleeping on a standard coil-spring mattress is now Hell. I wouldn't go back for love nor money

Same here, Select Comfort is the way to go. We moved our 20 year old Select Comfort to the guest room and upgraded our bedroom with one that has the adjustable head and foot and is heated. Not cheap, but worth it.

No sense going cheap and not being satisfied in a bed you typically spend around 1/3rd of your day in.

Like Mary we have a Sleep Number bed and we wouldn't give it up for anything. It works.

We opted for the king size. Ruthie appreciates the acreage because by the time I crawl over to her side of the bed she is already fast asleep.

We got a Casper mattress a couple years ago. Works great. My screwed up back really loves it. I had it put together, bed frame & all, inside an hour. Around that time, Bed, Bath & Beyond was closing all their stores around here and a lot of stuff was going 50 to 75% off. I bought a dual-control heated mattress pad (last one in stock) for around $50. If they'd have had more I'd have bought more. Very happy with the mattress. Quite comfortable and I don't think I spent $1000. I didn't want a mattress that does aerobics, as I roll all over the place when I sleep. My back feels happier, but then our old one was bought around 20 years ago.

Found out that 20 year replacement warranty might not be worth squat. Read the fine print and it will state that any stain on the mattress will void the warranty. I kid you not!! They then try to sell you a stain proof cover.
And I mean ANY stain-coffee, perspiration whatever.
The fine print WILL get ya

that's a crazy policy!
leave it to the lawyer to read the small print. ;)
