I bought this the other day from a friend who had it imported from Canada about 20 years ago. 8MM, shoots great. Built from WWII German parts on a FN receiver.
Question. What years were they built by FN like this and for what market?

Sure looks like a WWII K98k with the laminated stock. But I have not seen one with the FN stamp on the receiver. During WWII, FN did not make complete rifles or receivers for the Germans, but did produce rifle components, so it is not likely to be from WWII. Probably a post-WWII FN contract item for some other country, but I have no idea which one.

I have a ca. 1952 FN commercial sporting rifle in .220 Swift, but it does not have a FN stamp on the front receiver ring like yours does.

I have never seen a Mauser like that one before. It is built to the 98K
configuration but due to the condition of the components it must have
been assembled after the war, and maybe by some importer rather
than FN. A nice rifle for sure but a bit of a mystery.

Nice looking rifle.
Maybe something like a 'Mitchells Mauser' build.
Much nicer than most of those I've seen though!

Beautiful rifle, whatever you do don't be tempted to sporterize it as it may have some considerable value. For more info go to gunboards.com and post your pics in the mauser sub forum. you may be pleasantly suprised as to the history of the rifle and maybe the value. Those guys over there live for mausers. Frank

You might want to contact Mitchell's Mausers. It's possible they have run across some like this, or could point you toward someone who would know. And I concur about not doing anything to it. It could be quite unusual and valuable.

You might also contact NRA.

Thanks for the input. Always appreciated.
I posted the question on Gun Boards Forum but haven't got a response yet. Always interesting to research a weapon.

mitchelll mausers is a hustle... on all of their re-pop firearms... if anyone was ever able to get their money back out of one they would be extremely lucky... they are the Franklin Mint of the firearms world...avoid them at all costs.. my guess is that they would try to convince you to trade that FN of yours plus huge boot for one of their repops...

You ain't kiddin da gimp. Gun Boards forum is not the place to ask about Mitchell!! Thoroughly despised. Bolts in the white!! Nope did not happen on REAL 98ks leaving the factories.
