I just received this e-mail. It states my feelings better than anything I have seen to date.

To All,

"Let us, then, at the time appointed, gather around their sacred remains, and garland the passionless mounds above them with choicest flowers of springtime; let us raise above them the dear old flag they saved; let us in this solemn presence renew our pledge to aid and assist those whom they have left among us." General Order 11, May 5, 1868

General Order 11 established Memorial Day as a day of remembrance for those who sacrificed and died in our national service. Begun with the stirring words above, Memorial Day has become for many simply another federal holiday; a day when summer begins, when swimming pools open, and BBQs sizzle. Memorial Day should be more than this.

This Memorial Day, treat this day as a day set aside to honor those who have given away all their tomorrows so that we might all enjoy ours. Take time this coming Monday to remember those who died securing our peace and our freedom. Reflect on those who served in times of conflict to protect our land, our way of life, and our families. Remember and honor those who gave all to keep this great Nation free. It is the least we can do to thank them.

I was at Ft Gibson National Cemetery in OK today. Put flowers on 3 veteran's graves. My stepbrother (2000), my mother (2003) and my stepdad's (2009). None were KIA, though stepbrother and stepdad were wounded in action (WWII and SE Asia).

This National Cemetery is filling up WAY to fast (in my eyes, any way). Beautiful sight, tho!

My wife and I went to our favorite hangout last night to eat wings and listen to a band. The group was made up of four young guys, early twenties, and they played the national anthem as a Memorial Day tribute. I was impressed when the drummer stood up while he played the drums. Naturally the other three, guitars, were already standing. I was the only patron in the building standing however the fellow behind me did sing the words. All the other just kept drinking and talking as usual.
