Lets all remember Memorial Day. A day to honor all of our
veterans who gave their lives so we could be free. When I
was 15 I shined shoes in a downtown shoeshop. One of the
other shiners was several years older than I. In June of 1950
North Korea invaded the South and started the Korean War.
The other guy that I mentioned was a member of the National
Guard and they called the guard up for duty. I remember him
saying he didn't mind going to the monthly meetings and that
the camp in the summer was kinda fun. But he sure didn't
sign up to go to some war halfway around the globe. I also
remember a few days later a jeep pulled up in front of the shop
and 2 MPs got out and came in. They took the would be dodger
out with handcuffs behind his back. I have often wondered what
happened to him. Whatever he got he deserved.

The picture is at the entrance to the VA hospital in Boise.
