Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to all of you leather aficionados. I thoroughly enjoy being your moderator and I greatly appreciate all of you who participate.
This is the fanciest rig I own- made by S.D. Myres in 1935 according to the date scribed on the holster next to the owner's initials EFS ( Ed SmcGivern maybe ? ). The initials are on the matching belt which features a buckle set of silver, gold and rubies. The matching cartridge slide holds 12 .38 Specials.
Finally note the butterfly or moth motif. I've never put a gun in the holster but I believe it was made for a 5" K frame revolver. There's a good possibility the carving was done by Tio Sam himself. A truly deluxe rig that shows little signs of actual use. The calfskin lining is impressed to look like pigskin.
Enjoy the photos and yes I'm guilty of showing off.
Thanks again for making this forum worthwhile and thanks to Lee and David for putting up with us.
Regards,
John Witty

Absolutely beautiful John. I'd be a show off too. I have picked up a couple of pretty decent pieces lately. I'll send you pics when I get them.
None are that nice though.

Merry Christmas

WOW!!! That is exceptional and first class all the way! It still amazes me when we get to see awesome pieces like this. It is why I love this site so much.

Eighty-one years old, and it looks like it was made yesterday! The jockstrap holster is my favorite style and no one did it better than SD Myres, IMHO. I love the look of the impressed lining. Having the complete rig is priceless. The butterfly/moth motif is really interesting. It makes me wonder the story behind it. Wouldn't you love to know it's history? With a buckle set made of silver, gold, and rubies, that is the ultimate BBQ rig and can't be topped!!! Thanks for sharing John.
