Recently purchased a 4053 with 5 magazines.
Very dirty, but little actual wear, so I disassembled it, smoothed a few rough spots and installed new springs.
Back together, with a few bumps in the road.
Wet to replace the slide and it hits a hard stop at the "in battery" position. Will not move rearward.
With the slide off, I can manually half-cock the hammer and it releases normally. Both levers and disconnector move normally.
I'm baffled..
Have done something wrong.

The top of the firing pin safety lever is likely catching on the firing pin safety plunger in the slide. Make sure the hammer is all the way forward before you mount the slide on the frame, and don't touch the trigger after pushing the levers down to allow the slide to go the rest of the way back. (over the levers)

Touching or manipulating the trigger during the re-assembly process causes the drawbar to move forward, and can cause the tip of the lever to catch on the bottom of the firing pin safety plunger.

Also, no spring is required under the f.p. safety lever (in this model), if there is one present.
