Anyone else tried MFS .38 special, brass case, 158gr. flat point FMJ.It is Hungarian ammo that I just got from Sportsman's Guide for the member price of $15.75 a box plus shipping. I used it in my new S&W 642 today and 3 rounds out of 50 ended up with split cases making the extraction difficult.I had used up a 50 round box of Fiocchi 158gr. FMJ , round point prior to using the MFS and no problems at all.I have 3 boxes of MFS left. Should I use it? It all fired normally and was reasonably accurate. I am only using it for practice.
Thanks
Vern

does it feel like it is overloaded??? I have shot ammo that felt fine, but ended up with split cases (handloads that the brass finally gave out on) and just threw the empty cases away....

Super-duper flat primers and sticky extraction will tell you if the pressure is too high. If you do shoot the rest, I wouldn't order it again. Myself, I don't even think I would shoot the rest. It sounds like it's cheezy crap.

The MFS felt just like the Fiocchi. The primers look the same on every brand I have put through the 642. Do you think I should mark the cylinders and see if it is one in particular is being effected? The 3 cases were cracked longitudinally.I have a good photo but have no idea how to get it on this post.

IMO--poorly drawn brass.

i would call SG and let them know about the problem.

Thanks everyone. GLV- I called Sportsman's Guide customer service and informed them of the problem. The fellow said he would report the problem and apologized for the poor quality.

Simply not annealed properly.
I would shoot them up.

I have seen old rifle ammo with necks that had split while sitting in the box for 50 years.

SG e mailed me today. They are sending me a pick up label so I can send the MFS ammo back. They will replace it or give me a refund. They also said they will give me a $10 coupon.
I will return it for some better stuff.I am glad I reported it. Good advice GLV , thank you.

Glad to hear SG is taking care of its customers!;)

split casing

Sorry to resurrect an old post, but I too had problems with this ammo, and was getting ready to post a new thread.
I had trouble extracting and noticed this split casing. A buddy looked at the primer and said it did not appear to be a hot loaded round. He thinks the brass is too thin. Did this round damage my model 37-2?
