Have you ever been exploring your guns safe and discovered a "sub" collection that you didn't know your had? Or had made any effort to assemble?

Here is mine: Pre war, N frame LEO guns from 4 contiguous states.

Colorado: 38-44 HD shipped to the Colorado State Highway "Courtesy" Patrol on 10/19/1935 as part of a 44 gun shipment for the first 44 officers. Factory refurb in 5/68.

Kansas: Non Registered Magnum shipped to the Wichita PD on Dec. 10,1940, as one of the last shipments of pre-war magnums before production stopped for conversion to war-time production.. Original finish.

Missouri: Non Registered Magnum shipped to the Kansas City (MO) PD on Jan. 30,1940. Factory refurb May, 1947.

Tennessee: 3rd Model 44, shipped Dec. 21, 1939 to Capt. A.T. Kennon of the Memphis PD. Original finish.

Guess I'd better start looking for something from Utah...

Seriously though, I'm just jealous. That's a great collection.

Is the post-war service department refurb gun sporting numbered post-war stocks on it? Or another way to ask it is if they put those on there and numbered them in the service department.

I ask because I'm excessively fond of pre-war magnas and the gun looks a little sad wearing post war stocks.

They updated the numbered stocks on the PPD 44 3rds when they went back to the factory after the war.

True, but a fairly common occurrence on many of the KCPD Pre-War .357 Magnums that were factory refinished after the war. I count no less than 9 of them pictured with Post War Magna stocks in my thread at KCPD Pre-War .357 Magnums Purchased During 1939/1940 (Finish Condition - A Survey)

I think most of these Post War Magna stocks that were mounted on KCPD .357 Magnums refinished by the factory were unnumbered but I'm not absolutely sure about that.

Regarding the factory refinish/rebuild on the KCPD non reg, to the best of my recollection, the magnas are not numbered, but the are the early post war sharp shoulder, longer magnas which fit the frame perfectly. They came with the gun when I received it. The Colorado gun, also refinished, came to me with rubber stocks so I do not know what the factory put on them. The Colorado HDs remained in service at the CSHPD until in the mid 1970's.
