It looks like the MI weighs less than half as much as the Troy -- and costs less, too.

Do the M&P10s use AR15 handguards? someone just mentioned that they were under the impression that they use AR10/308 barrel nuts.

You need a handguard that fits a DPMS low-profile receiver. MI features the M&P10 on their website. They also note that you'll have to replace the ejection port cover pin.

I'm running a Troy on mine and that sucker is heavy. It feels very robust, but certainly heavier than I would prefer. I wish BCM made a KMR for the M&P10.

What additional parts will I need to aquire to go wth this kit for install?

That product does not mention the M&P10 by name and may no fit. Back up one level on MI's website and check out the two products at the top of the list (Mlok and keymod). They _do_ explicitly mention the M&P10 . . . even use as the keymod photo.

Some guys have successfully used that rail. Get the 0.150 upper tang model which apparently fits the DPMS 308 Low Profile rail standard on the M&P10. You will find this similar language on MI's page for this rail where MI specifically calls out the fitment for the M&P10:

thank you so much for your post.. you clarified something that I was wondering about as well as shown me what it looks like so I can now decide if i want to go with the 12 inch instead to show more barrel.
