I ve never used any mil-comm products & would very much like to. But before i buy any i want some more info. I ve read post of people using a copper based soap grease on glocks with great success. What is the soap base of mil-comm grease?lithium?teflon or some other blend? I recently came across royal purple UPG( ultra premium grease) thats full synthetic& reading the description on royal purples website,it sounds pretty bad ***. The only difference being it has an aluminum soap base. Has anybody ever used an aluminum based grease on their rifle? How would aluminum based grease affect your gun vs lithium or copper based grease? If you use a grease like tw25b or similar on your ar, google royal purple UPG & tell me what u think, how does it stack up against mobil1grease, lucas etc? As of now i use clp for the most part but will drop some of my own mix of mobil1 & royal purple syncromax on the bolt during extended visits at the range.

I don't use grease on my AR, never have, never will. CLP only, and reapplied as necessary.

Google "Filthy 14".

Cpl. Eugene Stoner knew what he was doing.

I've experimented with TW-25 and Red Hi-Temp bearing grease. At first, I liked it. I was shooting 75-100 rounds per range session. When I shot 350 rounds in a single session, not so much. My experience: the grease attracted more fouling than it was worth. I spent more time cleaning and degreasing the BCG & upper trying to get dirty goop out of small places. The next range session, similar round count, lighter coat of grease. Similar post range session pain in the butt cleaning.

I prefer a liquid lubricant. I use whatever is on hand: Breakfree CLP, Outer's Gun Oil, Ballistol, RemOil, Mobil1 Synthetic. I subscribe to the light coat of lubricant method. I don't overthink it.

Lubricant discussions get out of hand real fast. It's like asking a group of people what is the best beer. Go out and try a few lubricants and see which one works out for your use. If you do not want to deal with lubricant:

Yes that is true, every1 has their own preference, application methods & amount of lube used. I ve always run a wet lube & never had a problem, i think the problem i had last range session was because i didnt blow the excess clp off with the air compressor after cleaning. Which lead to random small puddles of clp inside of the handguard & around the gas block & after shooting 3 full mags the smoke coming off the gun seemed endless. Just trying to avoid that before going to the range again

Yup. That's just lube cooking off the exterior surface of the barrel. As you already know, the important part is to swab out lube from the chamber and bore before range sessions.

I had stored the rifle muzzle down for a few days before going to the range. That probably lead to even more lube hanging out near the gas block & end of the barrel.

I know the risk of an excessive lube in the chamber kaboom is ridiculously low, but I get peace of mind by swabbing out the chamber and bore with a dry patch prior to range sessions.

I still want to know what would happen using an ALUMINUM soap based grease like the royal purple UPG versus a LITHIUM or COPPER based grease? I was thinking about taking a dab of UPG grease & trying to mix with oil & see what kind of consistencies i get by varying the ratios
