Looks like 45acp. I bought 2k rnds of 1943 winchester a few years ago. Shoot it up. Take a little extra care in cleaning though because its possible that the primers are corrosive.

Dont shoot it just yet!

This appears to be .45 ACP loaded by somebody in the Commonwealth (Australia?) Note the large berdan primer, similar to what you see on .303 British rounds.

It MAY have value to a collector, or it simply could be range fodder.

Yes, I'm pretty sure it is .45 ACP ammo. If the headstamp is MG (that's what it looks like), it was made at the Footscray Small Arms and Ammunition factory number 2 in Australia.

I would think that is definitely collectible.
I would not shoot it anyway- I guarantee you it is corrosive.

mg on top

thanks for all the info.
I did not know it was made in Australia.
you guys really know your stuff

it does have an MG and IZ on the casing

I don't think I'll shoot it. don't need corosive.

I think it's really a neat item with the date on it.

thanks again

no not shot

no they were not shot.

I wonder if my dad tried to fire them a long time ago.

good eyes.

Has those 3 in front been shot already? They look like firing pin has been on them.

Seeing as how they have copper primer cups(soft) , I'd bet those firing pin marks are from cycling/chambering in something with a floating firing pin.

The 'IZ' is 'Mark 1 / Z'
Mark 1 the caliber and bullet weight/configuration of the cartridge.
The 'Z' designates it as loaded with a nitrocellulose propellant.

I wouldn't shoot them off. Not that they probably wouldn't work just fine and a bit of cleaning with soapy water or your other favorite cleaner for the job cures the corrosive nature of the ammo.
But a full clean box of Australian mfg WW2 pistol ammo has to have more value than that of just shooter stuff.

I think the box of 24 allowed for 1 load in the revolver and 3 full on 1/2 moon clips in the 3 segmented belt pouch.

FWIW, I've always thought that their (Australia mfg) 455 Webley ammo was designated .450 on the cartons.
Maybe just using up what they had during time of war,,and then I'm probably wrong!
