No, I'm not going to beat the dead horse of which is superior, just have a question.

My 4506-3 has MIM hammer, trigger and sear, at least. Probably other parts as well.

My question is, if I want to change over to a forged hammer, is it compatable with the MIM sear, or do I need to get a forged sear as well?

Any other problems with this switch?

Again, I'm not looking at pros and cons of either system, just compatability issues, if any.

Thanks

I called S&W a few months ago about getting a full size forged hammer to replace the bobbed hammer on my 1066 the rep said that the full size forged hammers are no longer in stock and there will be no more and that it would have to be a black MIM . You might be able to find a used one floating around or maybe a after market,im just not sure though.

Paying for the parts - it looks like it will cost well over $100 - see

I'm not concerned with locating the part(s), just the original question of compatability of mixing forged with MIM.

It shouldn't be a problem. Most semi parts are pretty interchangeable. I have put 2nd gen hammers in 3rd gen semi's, and even temporarily replaced a MIM 5904 hammer with a machined 469 bobbed hammer as a test. It worked just fine. I like bobbed hammers with the half-cock notch...

Thank you, that's exactly what I'm trying to do. Located a factory bobbed hammer. Only thing I'll need to do is change the stirrup, as it's for a compact.

Maybe silly, but it's something I want.

Exactly, that's why I took the 469 one out of the 5904, but it did work. i just didn't know if the short stirrup might cause an issue in the future.
add - Is it from a compact .45? I don't know if one from a compact 9/.40 would work. Although the part number for a bobbed 1066 hammer is the same as the one in a 4006.

Not to me!

*UPDATE

Received a NIW 6906 hammer in the mail yesterday. About 20 minutes later, I have a 4506 with a factory bobbed hammer. Only had to switch the shorter stirrup on the 6906 hammer for the longer one of the 4506, otherwise dropped right in. Function is fine.

AND, if I so choose, it's an easy switch back.

Thanks to all.
