What's next - DUIs blamed on alcohol?

The role of guns in suicide is receiving renewed attention in the national debate over firearms violence after the shootings in Newtown, Conn. About 19,000 of the more than 31,000 gun-related deaths in the USA each year are due to suicide — far outnumbering gun-related homicides

I can see it now - "We need to take your guns so you can't commit suicide."

"It's access to weaponry that turns desperate people into suicides," says psychiatrist Kenneth Duckworth, medical director for the National Alliance on Mental Illness, interviewed before McCready's death.

I had a long talk with all my guns this morning. I scolded them for being bad guns and told them to never even think about making me comit suicide or shooting any students! They all agreed to behave but I will be keeping a close eye on them! I'll never entirely trust them again thanks to the valuable information I have gotten recently from the liberal media!

I took it a step further. I locked mine in a safe and forced myself to forget the combination. Just in case.

Obviously her previous attempt at slashing her wrists, and ongoing battle with drugs, are inconvenient truths for anti-gun blame mongers. This poor soul courted death for years, and only happened to embrace it this final time with a firearm.

More people die by suicide at the Golden Gate Bridge than at any other site in the world.

At least 33 people died by suicide off the Golden Gate Bridge in 2012, increasing the documented tally from the span to more than 1,600 since it opened in 1937.

A certain CA senator needs to look in her own backyard.

Evil evil bridge, surprised it's not painted black.

I went even farther & told all my evil firearms that if they didn't
behave i would not load them to full capacity & to forget about
going to the range!

Seriously though, It sure seems like she was bound & determined to check out one way or another, taking her past
attempts into consideration. Here again, mental health issues
come into play & considering her past history, why was she
even allowed to have a gun?

Common sense bridge control

Clearly they should ban bridges that exceed a height of ten feet, maybe even seven feet. People don't stand a chance!

Not to be crass as I also am sorry for her but to be honest I am tired of hearing about her.

She is from this area and was a one hit wonder. Every thing large or small that happened in her short life was all over the news around here. The whole child custody thing, super star boy friend, child abduction. alcohol etc, etc. Now it's she killed the dog also.

Again, no one should face such demons as to take their own life and I wish she could have found some help , she was reported to have been doing better.

Read something about her former boyfriend committed suicide on the same porch a year or so ago?

I blame todays so-called country music!

Ms. McCready was released from rehab just days ago even though by all accounts, she was distraught over loosing custody of her young son. Where is the outrage over her release? Where were her friends and family in her time of obvious need? How is it that someone in her condition and with her history had a gun at all?

Are we really to believe that someone who is hellbent on killing herself will only use a gun? Is there a rational way to possibly think that the gun is somehow to blame for this tragedy? Her past attempts at suicide were blamed on her personal life, drugs and demons. Yet this successful attempt is somehow the gun's fault.

Making such an accusation merely shows the ignorance and desperation of the progressives in their ultimate quest to confiscate all guns from legal gun owners.

More like a month ago. Also shot himself in the head. He was the father of younger son.

Yeah, she was pretty much a one-hit wonder and made a lot of bad choices. Her death is still a tragedy.

So tell me again how taking my gun away would have prevented McCready's suicide? Or for that matter how restricting my access to magazines holding 30 rounds would have prevented the school shootings in Conn.? I'm still trying to figure that one out. The way I look at it all taking my gun away is going to do is make me drink Prestone or take a pot full of pills instead of using a gun.

BTW has anybody thought about the poor dog for cryin' out loud  Where is PETA regarding THIS murder-suicide??????

It is truly sad when someone makes the choice to end their own life.

But I am so mad at the people in the media who make the decision to sensationalize situations like this for their own benefit of making a name or increasing their own popularity. I have heard so many times from news organizations and reporters that they have to take a tragic situation and blow it up so they can get the national attention to further their career. So now everybody wants to jump on the GUN issue and show how their story is so important and they know so much about it...blah blah blah.

I've said it before, but movies and Hollyweird show people HOW to do it and put the idea in their heads, the gun is just the instrument.
