Let me hear about the latest one that got away. You know, the one that maybe was $50-$100 too high, had a scratch you didn't like, or maybe Mother's Day took priority. Now you kinda wish you would have jumped for it. Mine was a Pre-14, VG-EX, one scratch on the side of the barrel rib about an inch long. $529 + tax. Gone now, wanted it, but, I just bought a gun 2 weeks ago. I want to hear recent tales, not from 20 years ago. We've all got a million of those.

Did any of you see the church inscribed Colt Official Police on AA a couple weeks ago? Wish now that I would have bid a little higher. One of the things I collect are guns with unusual inscriptions, and I have never seen a gun inscribed as given as a gift by a church. Still may not have gotten it, but maybe if I'd have gone $50 higher???

Mine was a pre-model 14 at a gun show in Belleville IL. It was a 48-49 vintage with box for $575. It had been used so little that there wasn't even a ring on the cylinder. I passed because of the 3 day wait here in Illinois. I would have had to take off work for a day and drive the hour and 45 minutes to Belleville to pick it up. I've been kicking myself ever since.

OK, I'll play.

I was teaching CCW classes and "working" for this FFL. Had a set of keys, the alarm code, etc. Almost always got first dibs on milsurps.

This one day I started to go by, but decided I was "tired" and went straight home after leaving the office.

The next day I went in after work and saw this beautiful, late 40s/early 50s Detective Special in factory nickel in the layaway safe. Sweet double action trigger pull and a safe queen.

Sadly, the guy had come in the evening before, when I was "tired," just before closing and put down $50 on it.

He faithfully paid the $350 asking price off, $50 every two weeks.

I was miserable. Still am. I offered him all kinds of different deals to let me have it, but he really wanted it and, finally, got it.

I'm sure he is still enjoying it.

It was right after X-mas abiut four years ago. I had just picked up a nice used 3913 at a local Scheels. A few days later I dropped in to check the used revolver case. A nice Victory Model was sitting there. Mis-labeled as a 2nd model M&P. Marked $149.00!! To this day I am still mad at my self for not getting it.

Leaving a gun show in Phoenix an old guy came up to me and asked about the rifle I was carrying back to my car. An Ishapore British Enfield in 303.

I asked what he had for sale and he showed me his 6 in Nickle plated Python. I had seen two inside the show for 1100 and 1500 respectively.

He only wanted $ 600. I didn't have the cash but that's the best deal I had to walk awy from.

Never go to a gun show without cash.
