I was recently asked to look at a model 37 airweight and discovered it had a frame crack at the barrel threads. I haven't contacted S&W yet and was wondering if anyone had a similar situation. Will S&W replace the frame?

You call them and they will email you a shipping label to send the gun in. More than likely they will destroy your old gun and send you a new gun to an ffl holder.
I was told by CS that they are not going to spend the time taking apart your old gun to replace the frame.

I had a model 37 that developed the frame crack last year. Called the S&W service department and they emailed me a prepaid shipping label with shipping instructions. Fed EX picked up the package at my house. You must be there to sign off on the package. A couple of weeks later S&W called and informed me that the gun was not repairable and that they would send me a new 637 as a replacement if I so desired. I picked it up at my FFL a few weeks later. The only cost to me was the transfer fees at my FFL. Seeing as how I was not the original owner of the model 37 and that it was made a year or two before S&W started their lifetime guarantee program, I was very happy with how S&W resolved the issue. There are several posts on this forum about the aluminum J frame crack issues.

These Airweight cracked frame threads are showing up an awful lot lately. I had one on my 637 a while back. They gave me a new frame and barrel that I assume they keep extras in stock and the rest was from my old gun. They are still putting the ILS in the 637's while the 37's are out of production. If they cover it I assume you will get a new 637 that will have the ILS. Shipping back to you depends on state laws. Mine had to go to an FFL since Florida demands it. Some states will allow it to be shipped back to you as long as it's the same serial number. Some don't care either way.
